Boko Haram 200+ killed in recent bombs attacks I OPPOSE YOU YOU WILL FAIL

Friday's deadly bomb attacks in Nigeria's second largest city, Kano, are the latest in a series of spectacular strikes by the radical Islamist sect Boko Haram. The coordinated series of assaults on police stations and other government offices killed at least 200 people. The rise of Boko Haram is sparking concerns that Africa's most populous country may be edging closer to civil war. Nigeria's Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka predicted it; political analysts are regularly asked about it; and the Kano attacks prompted the Leadership newspaper to run as its weekend edition headline, "Finally, Boko Haram Launches War." The radical Islamist Boko Haram has made headlines with increasing frequency lately for a series of audacious terrorist strikes. Among them, a Christmas Day bomb blast that killed worshippers at a Catholic Church and a deadly suicide bomb last August at a UN headquarters in Abuja. Nigeria's 160 million people are roughly divided between a mostly Muslim north and a predominantly Christian south. The Christmas Day church attack, and the name Boko Haram, which in the Hausa language spoken in the north means "Western education is sacrilegious," are seen as signs of the group's Islamic radicalism. But nearly all experts and scholars interviewed for this report agreed the Boko Haram phenomenon is not mainly fueled by religious extremism. Rights activist and expert on the causes of political violence Damian Ugwu says Boko Haram's support base is mostly unemployed northern ...

Nigeria recaptures Kabiru Sokoto: Boko Haram kills 500 and helped by Somali al-Shabaab terrorists

The Nigerian State Security Service says it has recaptured Kabiru Sokoto, the main terrorist suspect in a deadly Christmas Day bomb attack in Nigeria. The deputy director of public relations in the State Security Service, Marilyn Ogar, said, "We have brought forward Kabiru Sokoto who was declared missing. I think that is enough. How we went about it is our own business. It's private to us, we operate under the need to know principle, and so we won't begin to tell you our mode of operation." Kabiru Sokoto escaped prison in January prompting President Goodluck Jonathan to fire the chief of police and six deputies for letting the suspect escape. Islamist sect Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the bombing of a Church in Abuja which killed 37 people. Police arrested Sokoto, but during the operation, their police vehicle came under fire, and Sokoto escaped. Jonathan said members of the Islamist sect had infiltrated the security services and he has ordered a comprehensive restructuring of the police force. Boko Haram is modeled after the Taliban movement in Afghanistan, and according to Human Rights Watch, it has killed more than 500 people in the past year. The group is affiliated with other extremist Islamic groups in sub-Saharan Africa. Boko Haram, has acknowledged receiving training from al-Shabaab, the Somali extremist group who have now formally announced they are joining al-Qaeda, something US counter-terrorism officials have claimed to be the case for some time.

BOKO HARAM; NIGERIAS FIRST LADY FINALLY SPEAKS OUT [LATEST]

LAST WEEKEND 12th MAY 2012, IN BAYELSA STATE, NIGERIAS FIRST LADY MADE A PASSIONATE STATEMENT, READ TEXT BELOW. This submission is not the usual grammar you get from the first lady Patience Johnathan , this one is well articulated. Read below: "It is becoming increasingly clear that some people are pre-occupied with sponsoring sharp criticisms against Jonathan and the same set of individuals is funding the ignoble activities of Boko Haram and their efforts would end up in nullity. "My husband is a man of peace. The growing cases of insecurity in the country are being handled with utmost commitment and it is [of] great concern to him. Those involved in this act should know that he [Jonathan] did not make himself president of Nigeria. Nigerians voted him into office to lead this country and all they are doing to disrupt and derail the peaceful co-existence of this nation as a corporate entity will definitely fail," ~ First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan . Boko Haram: Igbos Flee Northern Nigeria through Igboville free luxury buses

Over 150 Igbo citizens arrived Enugu from Maiduguiru, Borno State, on Thursday, three days after the same number of persons returned home due to the upsurge of Boko Haram activities in northern Nigeria. The returnees, who arrived in batches, arrived Ninth Mile Corner, Enugu town, in free luxury buses provided by Igboville, an Igbo social network group. The Igboville group comprises Igbo professionals in Nigeria and the Diaspora. The group provided the buses to be used in evacuating Igbos who are stranded in the North to Enugu. Some of the returnees, who spoke to reporters, claimed they relocated to the bush for many days until they got hint of the free buses. Mrs. Patricia Agballakwe, an indigene of Nnewi in Anambra State, said, "We came back because of Boko Haram. My family members and I were hiding in the bush until we heard that free buses had been provided for us and we quickly came out and returned home. As you can see, I am a happy woman now because I'm out of the Boko Haram area." Founder of Igboville, Mr. Emeka Maduewesi, implored the returnees to quickly resettle in the South-East zone while the government sorts out the security situation. Maduewesi, who spoke through Mrs. Nelo Fina, called on politicians and well-meaning Nigerians to assist in evacuating Ndigbo still left in the North from danger spots. While reaffirming the group's commitment to one Nigeria, Maduewesi urged the government to do more to secure the lives and property of Ndigbo and Nigerians in ...

Nigeria 'failing' in fight against Boko Haram

A Nigerian armed Islamist group has carried out a series of attacks in the Yobe state capital of Damaturu, leaving more than 100 people dead. The blasts occurred just before Eid al-Adha, or the feast of sacrifice, celebrated by Muslims around the world. Boko Haram has been active since 2002, with its fighters killing hundreds of people. Most Nigerian Muslims are opposed to the group's tactics, but with a high level of unemployment, the group seems to have little trouble finding new recruits. Many people blame the government for its failed strategy in fighting Boko Haram. Al Jazeera's Azhar Sukri reports.
