Betty Boop: "Boop-Oop-A-Doop"

The original cartoon made in 1932. Some of the Betty cartoons showed adult themes, and sexual harassment is clear in this one. Other Betty Boop cartoons were banned at the time for allegedly showing drug-abuse and racism. Many quite clearly have erotic undertones. Betty talking of her 'Boop- Oop-a-Doop' being taken away may have a double meaning. Betty's image is still used today, with dolls, posters and figurines still for sale. Betty's voice here is provided by Mae Questel. Max Fleischer, the cartoonist, always said that Betty is 17 years old.

Betty Boop 1933 Cab Calloway "Snow-White"

This 1933 cartoon featuring Cab Calloway is remarkable for having been animated by a single individual, Roland C. Crandall, and is considered one of the best cartoons ever made. Crandall received the opportunity to make Snow White on his own as a reward for his several years of devotion to the Fleischer studio, and the resulting film is considered both his masterwork and an important milestone of The Golden Age of American animation. (See The 50 Greatest Cartoons, as Selected by 1000 Animation Professionals, edited by Jerry Beck, Turner Publishing, Inc., 1994.) You don't get to see any live action of Cab in "Snow White," which is too bad, but the animation is incredible and, of course, the music is Cab and his Orchestra at their best. First Cab sings "St. James Infirmary" in the rotoscoped guise of Koko the Clown. "St. James Infirmary" was Cab's original signature tune, but he wanted something written specifically for himself, so he and Irving Mills wrote "Minnie the Moocher" to supplant "St. James Infirmary." The two melodies are extremely similar, and also bear a close resemblance to "Prohibition Blues." "Snow White" ends with the old Missourians instrumental, "Stopping the Traffic." This plot, such as it is, is really more a framework to display a series of gags, musical selections, and clever animation. Critics have cited the film as having some of the most imaginative animation and background drawings from the Fleischer Studios artists ...
Betty Boop Blunderland Classic

Betty boop starts of talking about a rabbit's head. Clocks come alive, and all that good stuff. it's kinda like the alice in wonderland, but 2 times wierder. Betty got crunk in this one. She was freestyling while animals where shooting dice. Them cats got it crunk too! You know how these betty boop cartoons are. Don't you?
Minnie the Moocher - song only

Edit of Fleischer Brothers' 1932 cartoon "Minnie the Moocher" with middle cut out, leaving only the song. Copyright has expired on the original cartoon. I also zoomed in on the live action beginning which is usually seen with thick black borders, and fixed the audio. I downloaded the original here: www.archive.org
Mysterious Mose - Bimbo and Betty Boop

An early Fleischer film from 1930 featuring Bimbo and the character who would soon be called Betty Boop. The Fleischer studio was known for surrealistic animation and this is a great example. Note how Betty is a human with dog ears in this film. She was gradually changed from a dog to a human over time. Her dog ears would soon become hoop earrings. ==================== Note that I am now moderating the comments because of some bad apples.
Betty Boop 1933 Cab Calloway "The Old Man Of the Mountain"

"The Old Man of The Mountain" is non-stop Cab from beginning to end. He appears first as an owl, singing the title song. The words have been changed for the cartoon, in which the Old Man is a villain. In the original song, the Old Man is a benevolent character. Next we see Cab as the Old Man himself, rotoscoped and singing, "You Gotta Hi-De-Hi," followed by "The Scat Song." The cartoon begins with live footage of Cab and his Orchestra playing around with the tune of Minnie the Moocher while Cab scats mildly and grins at the camera. Whereas Cab may have been caught by surprise when they used live footage of him in the earlier cartoon, "Minnie the Moocher", this time he is ready. He and his band are in dress white uniforms, Cab's hair is slicked back, and he pays attention to the camera. (The drummer, Leroy Maxey, is still playing with his drumsticks, though!) Of the three cartoons starring Cab Calloway, this one has the least interesting and least surreal plot, and the animation is the crudest. Never-the-less, the very early live footage of Cab is a treasure, and this cartoon showcases his music from beginning to end, featuring three of his songs. He does some of his most remarkable ever scat singing in this version of The Scat Song. In all of the Fleisher cartoons, Cab's characters are set in caves with menacing and ominous background illustrations: skeletons, skulls, ghosts, leering faces, and gambling, alcohol and drug paraphernalia. People have claimed that the ...

Salsa Dance Lesson : The Submarine Move

addicted2salsa.com Well, this is a funny one I think. The name of this salsa dance pattern was given by our videographer because every time I taught the salsa dance move, I would make a 'boop' sound similar to that one on the radars in submarines. I usually use this salsa dance move to give me more time to think what salsa dance move I will be doing next. Good to have it in the 'salsa dance arsenal' of moves.

Dead And Lovely (Studio) - Tom Waits

Tom Waits' "Dead And Lovely" from his 2004 studio album 'Real Gone'. It was also featured in the opening scene of the movie "Wristcutters: A Love Story". Tom Waits' iTunes page: itunes.apple.com Lyrics: She was a middle class girl She was in over her head She thought she would Stand up in the deep end He had a bullet proof smile He had money to burn She thought she had the moon In her pocket But now she's dead She's so dead Forever dead and lovely now I've always been told to Remember this... Don't let a fool kiss you Never marry for love He was hard to impress He knew everyone's secrets He wore her on his arm Just like jewelry He never gave but he got He kept her on a leash He's not the kind of wheel You fall asleep at But now she's dead Forever dead Forever dead and lovely now Come closer, look deeper You've fallen fast Just like a plane on a Stormy sea She made up someone to be She made up somewhere to be from This is one business in the World where that's no Problem at all Everything that is left They will only plow under Soon every one you knew Will be gone And now she's dead Forever dead Forever dead and lovely now Now she's dead Forever dead Forever dead and lovely now I've always been told to Remember this... Don't let a kiss fool you Never marry for love Everything has it's price Everything has it's place What's more romantic Then dying in the moonlight? Now they're all watching the sea What's lost can never be broken Her roots were sweet But they were so shallow ...
Betty Boop - Snow White (Cab Calloway ~ St. James Infirmary Blues) - 1933.mpg

Betty Boop is an animated cartoon character created by Max Fleischer with contributions from animator Grim Natwick among others. She originally appeared in the Talkartoon and Betty Boop series of films which were produced by Fleischer Studios and released by Paramount Pictures. She has also been featured in comic strips and mass merchandising. With her overt sexual appeal, Betty was a hit with film-goers, and despite having been toned down in the mid-1930s to appear more demure, she became one of best known cartoon characters in the world and remains popular today. "St. James Infirmary Blues" is based on an 18th century traditional English folk song called "The Unfortunate Rake" (also known as "The Unfortunate Lad" or "The Young Man Cut Down in His Prime"). There are numerous versions of the song throughout the English-speaking world. It also evolved into other American standards such as "The Streets of Laredo". "The Unfortunate Rake" is about a sailor who uses his money on prostitutes, and then dies of a venereal disease. Different versions of the song expand on this theme, variations typically feature a narrator telling the story of a youth "cut down in his prime" (occasionally "her prime") as a result of some morally questionable actions. For example, when the song moved to America, gambling and alcohol became common causes of the youth's death. The title is derived from St. James Hospital in London, a religious foundation for the treatment of leprosy. It was closed in ...
