Anything Goes - 1988 Tony Awards

Patti Lupone with the 1987 revival cast in Anything Goes on the Tony Awards. Anything Goes is a musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The original book was a collaborative effort by Guy Bolton and PG Wodehouse, heavily revised by the team of Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. The story concerns madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy #13 Moonface Martin aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. The musical introduced such songs as "Anything Goes," "You're the Top," and "I Get a Kick Out of You." For the 1987 Broadway revival, John Weidman and Timothy Crouse (Russel's son) updated the book and re-ordered the musical numbers, using Cole Porter songs from other Porter shows, a practice which the composer often engaged in.The music was rescored for a 16-piece swing band, in the style of early Benny Goodman, instead of the earlier 28-piece orchestrations. This production opened at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, in Lincoln Center, on October 19, 1987, and ran for 784 performances. With direction by Jerry Zaks and choreography by Michael Smuin, it starred Patti LuPone as Reno Sweeney, Howard McGillin as Billy, Bill McCutcheon as Moonface, and Anthony Heald as Lord Evelyn. It was nominated for ten Tony Awards (including LuPone, Heald and McGillin), winning for Best Revival of a Musical, Best featured actor ...

FELA! is a new musical that is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones with a book by Jim Lewis, in which audiences are welcomed into the extravagant, decadent and rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti. The Book of Mormon on Broadway- Interview with the Creators

From Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, comes a new Broadway musical called "the funniest show I've ever seen, by far" (Entertainment Weekly) and "so good it makes me angry" (Jon Stewart, The Daily Show). The Book of Mormon follows a pair of mismatched Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that's about as far from Salt Lake City as you can get. Described by Lynn Hirschberg of W Magazine as "a landmark...an authentic great American musical" and by Ira Glass of This American Life as "making the audience insane with joy," see it now or find yourself asking, "Dear God, how do I get tickets?" (Village Voice). Contains explicit language. Now playing at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. 1904 BROADWAY MUSICAL: George M. COHAN ~ Life's a funny proposition after all (1911)

For "Labienus" / American entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer and producer George M. Cohan (1878--1942) / Life's a funny proposition after all / from Little Johnny Jones, the Cohan musical that gave the world "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "Yankee Doodle Boy" / Recorded May 4, 1911 -- George M. Cohan signed to record exclusively for Victor amid much fanfare, though interestingly, strangely, the seven published discs, all made in 1911 and released on Victor's Purple Label, were a commercial failure, and today Cohan's recordings don't surface very often. LIFE'S A FUNNY PROPOSITION AFTER ALL from Little Johnny Jones (George M. Cohan) Did you ever sit and ponder, sit and wonder, sit and think, Why we're here and what this life is all about? It's a problem that has driven many brainy men to drink, It's the weirdest thing they've tried to figure out; About a thousand different theories, All the scientists can show, But never yet have proved a reason why. With all we've thought, and all we're taught, Why all we seem to know Is we're born, and live awhile, and then we die. Life's a very funny proposition, after all; Imagination, jealousy, hypocrisy and all; Three meals a day, a whole lot to say; When you haven't got the coin, you're always in the way. Ev'rybody's fighting, as we wend our way along, Ev'ry fellow claims the other fellow's wrong; Hurried and worried, until we're buried And there's no curtain call; Life's a very funny proposition ...

Marry Poppins - The Broadway Musical 2010

I watched the Marry Poppins last night in South Florida. Simply AMAZING. Of course there is only so much I can do when I have over 50 minutes of video footage from a 2 hour play and I can only edit/upload a 10 minute video on youtube. The video shows at least HALF of how AWESOME this play really was... and how AMAZING it was to see it LIVE.

Lauren Bacall - Gay Bar Scene From Broadway Musical Applause

This is a rarely, if ever, seen clip from the Broadway musical Applause, of Tony Award winning star Lauren Bacall singing "But Alive," which takes place in a Greenwich Village New York gay bar. It's very 70s, and truly a classic. Just seeing Bacall play the gay diva and sing and get flipped and flung around by the guys is worth the price alone. The quality of the video is okay, but I got it from someone who copied me a video of the entire show, which had been filmed for TV two years after it opened on Broadway. That special only aired once on network TV and has never been seen again. This is just pure fun, especially if you love stuff like this.
