After the French authorities closed the migrant camp known as 'the jungle' about 278 refugees were arrested and sent to detention centres all over the country. some were deported and others were later released and made their way back to Calais again. Now they have no shelter and are in a more desperate situation than before and are left to the mercy of winter. The French government refuses to provide basic shelter for these refugees. Not much left anymore, since it was mothballed in the mid 1980's... These are photos of what's left of the Roundhouse, & recently destroyed (scrapped) turntable, along with the rest of the Eastern portion of the Calais Branch main line, from Milltown, to Ayers Jct.. The Winter pictures in the 1st segment were taken by yours truly last Winter (early 2008), & the Autumn pics in the last half of the video were taken by my Father on his journey down the remainder of the ROW from Ayers Jct. to Dennysville in October, 2008. Guilford/Pan Am stil uses the Woodland spur from Salmon Falls, to Woodland pulp mill yard. The rest is gone, all the way from Ayers Jct. in Charlotte, Maine, to Washington junction in Ellsworth, Maine. Why, Guilford? What was Timothy Melon thinking? Another lorry load of Afghanistan illegal immigrants caught by the UK's Border Control in France trying to get into Britain via the channel tunnel. As usual they are simply released freely by the French authorities to have another try the next week no doubt. Up to 6000 stowaways are caught every year in Calais but according to Border Control it's just a fraction and many get through. This is mainly down to France's lapse border control and handling of illegal immigrants which directly impacts on Britain. Afghan's, Pakistani's and people from various other countries have set up camps in Calais close to the border which are simply tolerated by French authorities. A female British journalist investigating one of these camps was brutally gang-raped last year by Muslim illegal immigrants. The whole lapse border control of the EU needs serious review especially in light of the growing threat of terrorism on EU states. Illegal immigrants like this should be rounded and placed up in large purpose built detention centres like in the US and fast tracked out of Europe back to their home countries, regardless of whether they have paperwork or not. cofcc.org
