Pacific Standard Time: Jason Schwartzman Celebrates John Baldessari

Pacific Standard Time is a collaboration of more than sixty cultural institutions across Southern California, coming together for six months beginning in October 2011 to tell the story of the birth of the Los Angeles art scene and how it became a major new force in the art world. Each institution will make its own contribution to this grand-scale story of artistic innovation and social change, told through a multitude of simultaneous exhibitions and programs. Exploring and celebrating the significance of the crucial post-World War II years through the tumultuous period of the 1960s and 70s, Pacific Standard Time encompasses developments from LA Pop to post-minimalism; from modernist architecture and design to multi-media installations; from the films of the African American LA Rebellion to the feminist activities of the Woman's Building; from ceramics to Chicano performance art; and from Japanese American design to the pioneering work of artists' collectives. Initiated through $10 million in grants from the Getty Foundation, Pacific Standard Time involves cultural institutions of every size and character across Southern California, from Greater Los Angeles to San Diego and Santa Barbara to Palm Springs. Pacific Standard Time is an initiative of the Getty. The presenting sponsor is Bank of America.

Glen Keane at Cal Arts - Tarzan

I couldnt post this earlier because it was just above 100MB and YouTube wouldnt allow it. But after my last video was linked from several awesome links including CartoonBrew, Seward Street and CookedArt, I realized this video might be well received as well. So I've squeezed the compression, hopefully it wont look too bad. I messed a little with the zoom on this one and the camera moved about a bit more so I hope it doesnt make anyone sick...! I've put up a few stills from this presentation on my blog including some notes from Paul Driessen's presentation at UCLA on my blog: www.numairabbas.blogspot.com

Kabir Song - Anal Shah (CalArts)

Kabir Song is based on the life of 14th century Indian mystic and poet, Kabir, who was most famous for his songs scorning religious affiliation. His life and death is surrounded by legends, where it is still unclear whether he was a Muslim or a Hindu. The camera follows a similar mystic as he walks the streets of Varanasi, a northern Indian city, singing the songs of Kabir. "Kabir Song" by Anal Shah (5:19) MADE AT CALARTS

Haven-"Turn It UP"(Cal-Arts 1984)

www.youtube.com www.Myspace.com In 1984,my good friend and film school buddy,L. Allen Schecter hired me to produce a music video project that he had been commissioned to create. The group was his brother,Todd Lane's band from Shaker Hieghts,Ohio called "Haven". The name of the song is "Turn It Up". We had a decent budget, pretty big for film school,so we were able to rent professional equipment that was not availible in the schools camera cage. We shot it at the Modular Theatre inside of Cal-Arts. Animator Butch Hartman ('Fairly Odd Parents")created a storyboard for the opening sequence, for us to follow. Allen was grateful to me,for getting him on at the production company where I was a reader for the head of the firm. The company was American International Pictures, and we worked directly with the great legendary film producer, and one of my most influential mentor's in the business, the late Samuel Z. Arkoff. Sam wrote the book on commercial filmaking, and Allen and I followed it. Allen took it to a different level. Allen did it all big.I remember he rented a limo and took me,Vicki Arkoff, and Summer to the Prince 'Purple Rain' concert...and a lot of other crazy cool Hollywood type stuff!!! Fun times:))) Allen went on to write and produce movies, most notably with Joel Silver. The African-American guitarist in the group,Darryl Swann, went on to produce and discover the singer,Macy Gray. Macy and I have been known to work together,...in the past. It's funny how things go around ...
