Maria Callas

Maria Callas was born in New York City in 1923 to Greek parents. The uniqueness of her angelic voice and her unmatched artistry of interpreting operatic music are the reasons why she was an opera superstar. Ms. Callas passed away in 1977. The soundtrack is "Suicidio!" from "La Gioconda" by Amilcare Ponchielli. PS: check out my other channel "SundroidHD": www.youtube.com or my website: www.shisun.net
Maria Callas (Μαρία Κάλλας): Madama Butterfly - Puccini

Passing Through: www.youtube.com - Friends, Please visit my Poet friend "Passing Through's" YouTube channel: www.youtube.com , and support him - Thanks :) Un Bel Di Vedremo Madama Butterfly (Madame Butterfly) is an opera in three acts (originally two acts) by Giacomo Puccini, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. The opera was based partly on a short story by John Luther Long, which was turned into a play by David Belasco; it was also based on the novel, Madame Chrysanthème (1887), by Pierre Loti. The opera belongs essentially to the city of Nagasaki, and according to American scholar Arthur Groos was based on events that actually occurred there in the early 1890s. Madame Butterfly - Maria Callas

Puccini's Opera ''madame butterfly'' by Maria Callas Maria Callas (Greek: Μαρία Κάλλας) (December 2, 1923 September 16, 1977) was an American-born Greek soprano and one of the most renowned opera singers of the twentieth century. She combined an impressive bel canto technique with great dramatic gifts. An extremely versatile singer, her repertoire ranged from classical opera seria to the bel canto operas of Donizetti, Bellini, and Rossini; further, to the works of Verdi and Puccini; and, in her early career, the music dramas of Wagner. Her remarkable musical and dramatic talents led to her being hailed as La Divina. Born in New York City and raised by an overbearing mother, she received her musical education in Greece and established her career in Italy. Forced to deal with the exigencies of wartime poverty and with myopia that left her nearly blind on stage, she endured struggles and scandal over the course of her career. She turned herself from a heavy woman into a svelte and glamorous one after a mid-career weight loss, which might have contributed to her vocal decline and the premature end of her career. The press exulted in publicizing Callas's allegedly temperamental behavior, her supposed rivalry with Renata Tebaldi, and her love affair with Aristotle Onassis. Her dramatic life and personal tragedy have often overshadowed Callas the artist in the popular press. Her artistic achievements, however, were such that Leonard Bernstein called her "The Bible of opera", and ...

Maria Callas - Ah! Crudel! (Parsifal)

Amazing scene from Wagner's Parsifal, act 2. Kundry is an interesting role, written for the mezzo/contralto Marienne Brant who was also able to sing dramatic soprano, and had a vocal range from low G to high D, and was a pupil of the great Pauline Viardot. The role of Kundry requires a strong low register but also a resilient upper register, with a tessitura so widely shifting than in some productions it has been performed by two different singers on stage! The fantastic range of Kundry is low Ab to high B.

Callas - Trovatore 1950

"La grande vociacia" (the big unpretty voice) of Maria Callas (dixit her mentor,T. Serafin) who was singing Isolde, Brünnhilde, Kundry, Fidelio, Turandot and Gioconda, reveals in Mexico 1950 her treasures of agility and line in the rather belcantist Trovatore of Verdi, at a time where coloraturas agilities were rather the prerogative of light sopranos. Dark and incredible flexibility at the end of the duet with the baritone.
Maria Callas La Divina

Maria Callas, the American born, Greek soprano, redefined the bel canto with such ferocity and perfection future divas would be hard pressed to follow. The soundtrack's first Aria is from the Opera Norma, written in 1831, the piece is "Casta Diva" by Vincenzo Bellini, the conductor was Tullio Serafin conducting the Milan Teatro alla Scala Orchestra, an EMI label release, in stereo. The exact part Maria Callas is singing in "Casta diva" with an English translation can be found here: www.aria-database.com The second Aria, is from the Opera La Wally, written in 1892 by Alfredo Catalani, the piece is "Ebben" , the conductor was again Tullio Serafin, conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra, an EMI label release, a mono recording. DSP chips can do miracles even in mono recordings with Callas' voice. The heroine in Act I of La Wally, vows to escape an arranged marriage and contemplates the dangers of the long journey away from home. Dangers, Hellenic expatriates, the world over, are very familiar with. Amneris- A Callas masterclass

The very talented mezzo Sheila Nadler was given a masterclass at Juillard by Maria Callas in the role of Amneris in Aida. One Callas remark might be astonishing about staying beautiful in any occasion, even in tragedy, at the end. Because Callas would not care, during her career about just sounding or looking beautiful if the dramatic necessity needed more roughness. But one must remember that Amneris is a royal princess, not Santuzza, not Medea.

He was initially a painter of historical themes and military subjects. In his middle years, inspired by the Barbizon school, he became one of the leading Italian plein-airists, painting landscapes, rural scenes, and scenes of military life. After 1884, he devoted much energy to etching.
Maria Callas - La mamma morta

La mamma morta (They killed my mother) is an aria from the 1896 opera Andrea Chénier by Umberto Giordano. It is sung by the role of Maddalena di Coigny (soprano). . . This video is best viewed at 720p on a full screen. All lyrics are included in Italian and in English. A very brief summary of the plot: The story takes place during the French Revolution. The title of the opera is also the name of the main character, André Chénier, a poet and believer in love and freedom. The story opens at the château de Coigny where Maddalena, a countess, is having a party which Chénier attends. These are the two major roles. The third major role is Gérard, a servant, who secretly loves Maddalena. Gérard later joins Robespierre's Reign of Terror. Eventually, Chénier and Maddalena fall in love. Gérard, who moves up in the ranks, has Chénier (who opposes the reign of terror) arrested but arranges for Maddalena to be spared. Unfortunately for Gérard, Maddalena chooses to die with Chénier rather than live without him. They are both sent to the guillotine. The opera is obviously more complicated than this brief synopsis but this is the gist of it. "La mamma morta" is also sung by Maria Callas in the 1993 movie, "Philadelphia" with Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. The scene where Hanks listens to and interprets this aria is phenomenal and contributed to earning him an Oscar for his role in the movie.

Another lesson at the Juilliard School, on Fiesco'aria in Simon Boccanegra. Callas inspires young Willard White (before he began his a great carreer) with some more authority, exact diction, urgency in the vibrato and phrasing, and talks about the relative pianissimo on an operatic stage.
