Cannonball Adderley feat. Miles Davis " Autumn Leaves" (1958)

Somethin' Else is a 1958 album by jazz musician Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, regarded as a landmark album in the hard bop and cool styles. This critically-acclaimed album is notable for the presence and prominent contributions of Miles Davis, in one of his few recording dates for Blue Note Records. Many critics and jazz fans consider Somethin' Else to be among the greatest jazz albums of all time. When alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley culled together this quartet, he grabbed three champions from seemingly disparate schools to complement his flinty solos: Miles Davis, the king of cool; Art Blakey, the thundering force of hard bop; Hank Jones, a veteran of swing; and Sam Jones, a versatile bassist adaptable to nearly any setting. The results are one of Blue Note's most beloved albums. The open-ended beauty of "Autumn Leaves," which features Davis beautifully stating the melody on muted trumpet, sounds like it could easily be an outtake from Kind of Blue (which it isn't). The midtempo title track provides the centerpiece of this classic as Adderley echoes Miles's swaggering melody before both unravel wonderful solos. Johnny Cash - "Wabash Cannonball"

"The Wabash Cannonball" is an American folk song about a fictional train, thought to have originated in the late nineteenth century. Its first documented appearance was on sheet music published in 1882, titled "The Great Rock Island Route" and credited to JA Roff. All subsequent versions contain a variation of the chorus: Now listen to the jingle, and the rumble, and the roar, As she dashes thro' the woodland, and speeds along the shore, See the mighty rushing engine, hear her merry bell ring out, As they speed along in safety, on the "Great Rock-Island Route." A rewritten version by William Kindt appeared in 1904 under the title "Wabash Cannon Ball". The Carter Family made one of the first recordings of the song in 1929, though it was not released until 1932. Another popular version was recorded by Roy Acuff in 1936. It is a signature song of the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjack Marching Band, the Kansas State University Marching Band, the University of Texas Longhorn Band, and of the Indiana State University Marching Sycamores, as ISU is close to the Wabash River. It was also used as the theme song by the USS Wabash (AOR5). The song "The Wabash Cannonball" is part of the The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list In addition to The Carter Family's 1929 recording and Roy Acuff's 1936 recording, many hillbilly artists recorded "The Wabash Cannonball" during the Great Depression era of the 1930s and 1940s. Shooting cannon balls with the slingshot

The walkback slingshot was presented in an earlier video already, but due to the lack of space it wasn't tested with steel balls before. This test - requested by many viewers - was now performed. Watch how the team warms up and the reliably hit the hay bail from 44 yards distance! The heavy steel ball goes in about two feet. This weapon is highly portable and very powerful. Also, as requested by the audience, the chest plate "Massacre Master" slingshot is tested on longer distances, too - with nice results. A "The Slingshot Channel" production!

Cannonball Adderley "Jeannine" (1960)

"Them Dirty Blues", is a completely apt and highly descriptive title for this second album by Adderley's sensational quintet. For the soulful spirit of the blues—the real, low, wonderfully emotion-stirring, and downright dirty blues that has always been and always will be the bedrock of jazz—is the basic message of this group. Which is certainly one important reason for the breathtaking surge of popular approval that carried the band, within a few short months after its formation in mid-1959, to a position well up in the front ranks of current jazz. The principal guiding force here is of course Julian Adderley—"Cannonball"—the Florida-born alto sax star who, until he launched this quintet, had probably been best known through his year and a half as a featured member of the Miles Davis Sextet. Cannonball, in addition to his truly awesome ability as a jazz improvisor, possesses one of the most naturally warm, articulate, and appealing personalities in or out of music. It can be heard in his playing and is, I think, one key to his vast success. (And it has also caused him to become a truly daring innovator among band-leaders: one who in his club appearances, actually talks to the audience, lets them know what is going on, makes them feel welcome, and makes them like him!) The fact that Cannonball and the other horn in the group mesh together so wonderfully well cannot be credited entirely to the fact that he and Nat Adderley are brothers (as I'm sure lots of people with ...
