1984 Olympic Men's Gold Medal Long Jump - Carl Lewis

GOLD - Carl Lewis, USA 8.54 (28-0 1/4) SILVER - Gary Honey, AUS 8.24 (27-0 1/2) BRONZE - Giovanni Evangelisti, ITA 8.24 (27-0 1/2) This was Lewis' first jump. It surpassed 28 feet and won the gold medal by nearly a foot, despite lack of much reaction from Lewis or ABC announcers Al Michaels and Dwight Stones. Lewis took only one more jump, a foul. He passed in subsequent rounds, confident his mark would hold up and determined to save energy for the 200 and relay. The Coliseum crowd didn't appreciate it, and booed, putting Lewis on the defensive in subsequent interviews. Note: The ABC graphic at the end of this video erred on the silver and bronze medalists, who tied at 8.24. Honey won the silver based on longer second best mark of 8.18

Carl Lewis singing national anthem Star spangled banner

This is an audio clip of Carl Lewis trying to sing the US national anthem at an NBA game in the 90's. As you can hear, he did not do a very good job musically, but a great job comically! A few points I'd like to make you aware of: 1.- The most obvious one: How his voice cracks at the "red glare" part, immediatly followed by his "uh oh!" 2.- His promise: "I'll make up for it now..." (He never did). 3.- The way he stops at land of the free for fear of cracking up again, and "sings" it a wrong tone. 4.- His 5 second "braaaaaaveeee", as if it would make up for him being so bad the whole song before it.

Olympic Champ Carl Lewis's race for the NJ Senate

Many of us know 9-time-gold medalist Carl Lewis as America's greatest Olympic champion. But he's also well-known in his home state of New Jersey as a local hero and advocate for children's fitness and education programs. Now he's running for NJ State Senate in the 8th Legislative district in South Jersey. The Republicans have spent a lot of time and money fighting Carl's candidacy because they're rather run unopposed. Which tells you A LOT about the mediocrity of their candidate.
