Hoagy Carmichael - Lazy River (1930)
Hoagland Howard "Hoagy" Carmichael (Nov.22,1899 - Dec.27,1981) was an American composer, pianist, singer, actor, and bandleader. He is best known for writing the melody to "Stardust" (1927), one of the most-recorded American songs of all time.Carmichael spelled it "Star Dust", but the space is usually omitted. Alec Wilder, in his study of the American popular song, concluded that Hoagy Carmichael was the "most talented, inventive, sophisticated and jazz-oriented" of the hundreds of writers composing pop songs in the first half of the 20th century. The music was written by Hoagy Carmichael, the lyrics were written by Frank Loesser, the song was actually performed by Larry Clinton & his Orchestra. It is often played as a duet, in C Major. It is a popularly played piece on the piano, however this song (the original) is actually no where on YouTube, which is why I am uploading it. I first became interested in this, (after being able to play a fairly good version myself), I found a video of it, and researched it a little. It is, possibly most famously featured in the film Big, where Tom Hanks plays it on a supersize keyboard. (It's also the theme tune for Big) Another popular appearance was in Stuart Little. Ian Carmichael, OBE (18th June 1920 - 5th February 2010) was an English film, stage, television and radio actor. Among his most famous big screen characters were the well-meaning but incompetent Stanley Windrush in the Boulting Brothers satires Private's Progress (1956) and I'm All Right Jack (1959), as well as the hapless title character in Lucky Jim (1957), an adaptation of the Kingsley Amis' novel also by the Boultings. thefilmarchive.org Stokely Standiford Churchill Carmichael www.amazon.com (June 29, 1941 - November 15, 1998), also known as Kwame Ture, was a Trinidadian-American black activist active in the 1960s American Civil Rights Movement. He rose to prominence first as a leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC, pronounced "Snick") and later as the "Honorary Prime Minister" of the Black Panther Party. Initially an integrationist, Carmichael later became affiliated with black nationalist and Pan-Africanist movements. He popularized the term "Black Power." In 1965, working as an SNCC activist in Lowndes County, Alabama, Carmichael helped to increase the number of registered black voters from 70 to 2600 — 300 more than the number of registered white voters. Black residents and voters organized and widely supported the Lowndes County Freedom Organization, a party that had the black panther as its mascot, over the white dominated local Democratic Party, whose mascot was a white rooster. Although black residents and voters outnumber whites in Lowndes, they lost the county wide election of 1965. Carmichael became chairman of SNCC later in 1966, taking over from John Lewis. A few weeks after Carmichael took office, James Meredith was attacked with a shotgun during his solitary "March Against Fear". Carmichael joined Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Floyd McKissick, Cleveland Sellers and others to continue Meredith's march. He was arrested once again during the march and <b>...</b>

Looks like someone needs to get their overts checked! Rev. John Carmichael, the head of the Church of Scientology in New York City, made an appearance at a "Free Stress Test" table to try to prevent Anonymous from informing the public about the dubious nature behind the test itself and bigotry within the book they are attempting to sell, "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" by L. Ron Hubbard, by calling the cops on us. After the entire debacle explodes in Carmichael's face with none of us being charged for a crime and his own organization slapped with a fine for not having a street vending permit to run the "stress test" tables in the first place, Carmichael slowly gets more and more crazy as nothing seems to be going his way. All of this culminates in one of the most unexpected moments witnessed by New York City Anons as the greatest public relations figure for the Church of Scientology in the five boroughs is finally driven COMPLETELY FUCKING BONKERS! Last night I uploaded Harry Nilsson's "Thursday" because it reminds me of fall, and down here in Texas its hot as hell. I wake up craving crisp autumn mornings. It's weather that will make you feel like a strawberry (reference to Lady Salvia). Anyway, Memphis in June reminds me of that, too, despite what an obviously lazy summer song it is, so here it is. I could only find a video with some dude playing it on guitar, and he was badass, but I really dig Hoagy Carmichael's voice and style. Check out "Two Sleepy People." Someone uploaded it to Youtube with a bunch of pictures of little dogs, haha. Hoagy Carmichael is great in it, but Ella Logan steals the show.
