"Carver One" The Journey Is The Destination
It's being hailed as the most athletic automobile in the world, the Vandenbrink "Carver One". Is it a car? Is it a motorcycle? Is it a road-restricted ATV? No one seems to know, but this quirky Dutch machine will easily turn heads and put a smile on your face. Its a tandem-seat machine that has three wheels, and whats more it tilts when you corner. The Carver is powered by a motorcycle-sized 660-cc turbocharged inline four with four valves-per-cylinder, mated to a regular five-speed manual gearbox. Despite the engines tiny capacity its enough to propel the Carver to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds. Top speed for this three-wheeled machine is pegged at an estimated 115 mph! The Carvers front half pivots and tilts up to 45 degrees in each direction in order to turn. The rear half is more like a regular car; it remains fixed and parallel to the road in order to maintain excellent grip and traction. The rear also uses conventional 195/45R15 automobile tires, whereas the front rides on a single 145/70R17 motorcycle tire. At 29900 Euros base price [equivalent to $40000US delivered]. Donna Blischke wakes to the sound of a rooster crowing. Outside, hens flap their wings to shake off the night's sleep. The goats, Krista and Fern, toss their heads at one another, and blow steam out of their nostrils. "The girls," as they are called, rise from the warm hay, their spindly legs unfolding as they stand. This is how each day begins at Web of Life farm in Carver. Blischke rolls out of bed, dresses and goes out the door. She first feeds the hens, tossing pans full of grain and corn across the barnyard. The hens peck at the kernels, while the goats prance around them, trying to grab a share. While the hens eat, Blischke collects eggs from 25 nests and places them in a basket for her family's morning meal. Blischke has been living the life of a farmer for the past 13 years. Before that, she commuted to Boston where she worked as an administrator for the federal Women, Infants and Children program that helps low-income families obtain milk and other nutritious foods. After her first child was born in 1986 she traded her suit, blouse and high heels, for jeans, a tractor and braids. Money was tight then, and it is now, but the tradeoff is that her children Travis, 21, and Stephanie, 14, grew up surrounded by the bounty nature provides. The farm has expanded from producing just fruits and vegetables to one that sells eggs, herbs, honey, home-made soap, goat's yarn, lip balm and hot pepper sauce. The Great Pumpkin Carver
This day marks the three year anniversary of the day that I joined YouTube. And what better way to celebrate it than release a film? And that film happens to be this: A short Halloween film that I made using my new Quickcam Pro 9000. I still haven't figured out how to film so that I don't get so much annoying light flickering. I wasn't going to make a Halloween film this year because I didn't have much free time. But I've managed to make one Halloween film for every year that I've been animating: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and now 2009. This time I couldn't come up with a good idea that was also very short (a problem that I have all the time), so my sister, Emily, suggested the idea of this film. So I made it. I think this film has the most special effects in it compared to its run time of any film I've made yet. It's only three and a half minutes, but I had many effects that I've never even tried before; such as the flying geese (THAT took me quite a while to do) and the ticking clock. Also, if the music sounds a little sloppy, it's mainly because I hadn't practice the guitar in several months, and I learned, practiced and recorded this song in an hour. And I've always had trouble playing perfect for the microphone. That mean old microphone!
