Jorma Kaukonen & Jack Casady - hesitation blues

"I had this friend [Talbot] in Berkeley who came up with funny names for people," explains Kaukonen. "His name for me was Blind Thomas Jefferson Airplane (for blues pioneer Blind Lemon Jefferson). When the guys were looking for band names and nobody could come up with something, I remember saying, ''You want a silly band name? I got a silly band name for you!'' Jack Casady - Crown of Creation 10-4-92 Jefferson Starship / Airplane

www.myspace.com Jack Casady, Paul Kantner, and Marty Balin with band at Central Park in NYC on Oct 4th 1992. A roaring version of the title track from the 1968 Jefferson Airplane album. I put Jack's name first for good reason, he completely takes over the show during most of this set. This is a handheld camera shoot with some frustrating blocked shots, but be patient because the close-ups of Jack will make up for it. Jack had the mighty Versatone amp at his side along with the Gibson Les Paul Signature Bass, the guitar that he modeled his Epiphone Casady Signature bass after. This was billed as the K-Rock Be-In concert hosted by the NYC radio station. Located at the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park, which is literally 50 yards from the bandshell where the Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, and Paul Butterfield Blues band performed together in 1968. Jack is on fire here and the Hot Tuna fans will certainly enjoy this as well. Please visit the SpiralEye web site where the 70's Hot Tuna spirit lives!

Casady, Garcia, Dryden - blues jam - 1968

This 13 minute clip is part of an informal jam session that Jack Casady, Jerry Garcia, Spencer Dryden, Jorma Kaukonen, and possibly a few others had in the 2400 Fulton St. Airplane mansion basement in 1968. Thankfully it happened to get recorded. This particular chunk features Casady, Garcia, and Dryden. Enjoy!

Jack Casady Lifetime Award 10/22/2011 Hot Tuna

An epic night it was at the Key Club in West Hollywood CA on Oct 22 2011. It was an honor to be present for this award given to Jack for his life's work on the bass guitar. This is the opening segment led by the moving induction speech by Anthony Jackson, session bassist for the likes of Chick Corea, Steely Dan, Paul Simon, and many others. Jack is brought out for the award and proceeds to give a very touching tribute to wife Diana, and offers anecdotes on the various paths throughout his career. With Jorma at his side he happily accepts the award and then gets ready for some music. Jack and Jorma then proceed to lay down a ferocious 45 minute acoustic duo set.

Epiphone Jack Casady Bass Metallic Gold - Quick Look @ Nevada Music UK

Buy this bass here... www.nevadamusic.co.uk The Epiphone Jack Casady bass guitar is a highly regarded design from the bass player of groundbreaking rock bands Hot Tuna and the Jefferson Airplane. A single low impedance humbucker delivers a full, rich and resonant yet defined bass tone, with a clarity that's hard to achieve using normal high impedance and active pick ups. For those of you that are looking for an expressive acoustic bass tone, rather like an upright bass, the Epiphone Jack Casady lets you explore that type of sound to the extreme. The instrument has a laminated Maple body and a set Maple neck with Rosewood fretboard. The fat neck shape with jumbo frets is comfortable while the chrome hardware, body binding and trapezoid inlays make this bass comfortable to play and fascinating to watch.

jack casady - let me in

Jefferson Airplane's 1966 song, Let Me In. Drums, vocals, and bass, semi-isolated from the rest of the mix. Thank you Jack Casady. Nobody played the bass like this in 1966! Since this was prior to Jack's Guild Starfire days, the bass featured here is his 1965 Fender jazz bass -- prior to being modded with the precision bass pickup in the neck position, as shown in the photo
