The Lions of the Hyderabad Zoo( India)

The lion (Panthera leo) is one of the four big cats in the genus Panthera, and a member of the family Felidae. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia with a critically endangered remnant population in Gir Forest National Park in India, having disappeared from North Africa, and Southwest Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene, which was about 10000 years ago, the lion was the most widespread large land mammal after humans. They were found in most of Africa, much of Eurasia from western Europe to India, and in the Americas from the Yukon to Peru.

Kolkata Zoo, India

Check out the Kolkata zoo. It is as much fun to see how much people living in Kolkata are enjoying it as it is to see the animals. There were thousands of people there, picnicking, playing badminton, enjoying their families and cheering LOUDLY at the site of the tigers and the roar of the lions. It was easy to get caught up in all the excitement. We did this as a weekend activity while staying in Kolkata to volunteer for Children International - Sahay.

Chennai ZOO (Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur, Chennai, India). A film by Sumit Khosla

Arignar Anna Zoological Park (Tamil: அறிஞர் அண்ணா உயிரியல் பூங்கா), also known as the Vandalur Zoo, is a zoological garden located in Vandalur, a suburb 31 kilometres (19 mi) south of the city of Chennai, India and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Chennai Airport on GST Road. The zoo is contiguous with the Guindy National Park. Founded in 1855, the park was the first public zoo in India. It is recognized by the Central Zoo Authority of India. Spread over an area of 602 hectares (1488 acres), including a 92.45-hectare (228-acre) rescue and rehabilitation center, Arignar Anna Zoological Park is the largest zoological garden in India and is home to seven white tigers. It houses more than 170 species of animals in about 81 enclosures.[4] There are about 47 species of mammals, 63 species of birds, 31 species of reptiles, 5 species of amphibians, 25 species of fishes, and 10 species of insects in the park. In 1854, Dr. Edward Balfour, then director of the Government Central Museum at Madras, persuaded the Nawab of the Carnatic to donate his entire animal collection to the museum. This attracted large crowds and became the nucleus of the Madras Zoo, which was founded in 1855. Dr. Belford started the Zoo on the museum premises, and it was later transferred to the Madras Corporation and shifted to 'People's Park' near Central station at Park Town in 1861 as it was growing. The municipal Zoological Garden occupied one end of the 116 acres (47 ha) park and was ...

Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari lioness stared wide eyed

Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari is located in the Shimoga district of the state of Karnataka, India. This lioness was disturbed by us but she just stared wide eyed, sneezed and did not attack us. She's not in a cage and 20 ft away from us. The African male lion with her from Tamilnad is aggressive and violent. Shows signs of abuse - so she's generally anxious. www.junglelodges.com Tour director: Nagappa Forest officer: Ramesh Fact file: Spans 250 hectares - 27.5 for animals mainly the big cats. 21 tiger surplus in 1989 now 3 females 6 males as they donated tigers to other sanctuaries. 1989 - Local Panchayat worked for it, Central Zoo Authority jurisdiction now.
