The year 2011 marks the 150th year of birth of Rabindranath Tagore. Sounak comes up with Notun Praan, a unique presentation produced by Asha Audio. The Theme of the album is "NEW". It looks at 'New' as an idea rather than just a superficial experimentation with new musical instruments. The album explores the fact that Tagore never endorsed stagnation as a philosophy of life. Himself an iconoclast, his writings, songs, poems, plays, essays everything reflect his strong affinity for change and evolution. He is almost a rebel at times, a feature that we do not always associate with Rabindranath. However when rebellion becomes just a fashion, it loses its whole purpose. This album contains some of his best and most mature writings, from his poems and plays along with songs. These pieces have been brought to life in the album by the recitations of the legendary Soumitra Chatterjee and the most talented and acclaimed actress Chaiti Ghoshal. The highest point of the album is possibly the use of transposition, which is a western concept we are all so familiar with when listening to immortal western popular numbers, but is something that has probably never been tried in Rabindrasangeet.
