Tens of thousands of villagers are protesting in Wukan, in Guangdong Province. Now the situation has become a standoff as villagers have kicked out both local officials and police. That came after the suspicious death of one villager in police custody. Here's the latest. The over twenty-thousand residents of the village of Wukan in south China's Guangdong Province have expelled all local Communist Party authorities, including police, and blocked road access to the village. The British newspaper The Telegraph was able to get a journalist on the ground in Wukan on Tuesday. Malcom Moore called the current incident the first time on record that the Party has "lost all control" in a situation of "open revolt." This marks the latest escalation in an ongoing confrontation between villagers and local Communist Party officials they've called corrupt and abusive. For three months, Wukan residents have been staging occasional large-scale protests against a longstanding series of abuses committed by local Party officials. The villagers' biggest grievance was ...

China Threatens World War Three If Anyone Attacks Iran 2011

A professor from the Chinese National Defense University says that China should not hesitate to protect Iran, even if it means launching world war three, as more US warships are dispatched to the region amidst heightening tensions. According to NDTV, a Chinese news station based outside the country, in regard to recent speculation that Iran would be the target of a US-Israeli military assault, Major General Zhang Zhaozhong commented that, "China will not hesitate to protect Iran even with a third world war," remarks described as "puzzling to some". The news report also quotes Professor Xia Ming as paraphrasing Zhaozhong's quote that, "not hesitating to fight a third world war would be entirely for domestic political needs." China has vehemently reaffirmed its alliance with Iran in recent weeks, most notably yesterday when it refused to criticize Iran for a raid on the British Embassy in Tehran launched by Iranian students earlier this week. www.washingtonpost.com Both China and Russia have made it clear that they will veto any UN authorization of military action against Iran in the aftermath of claims that Iran is on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon. South China Sea Confrontation Continues

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The dispute between the Philippines and mainland China over the sovereignty of Huangyan Island continues to escalate. The mainland regime continues to criticize the Philippines and is increasing military build-up in the area. Recently, the regime also started to apply strict inspection of fruits imported from the Philippines. Many suggest that the Chinese regime is trying to force Philippines to back away through economic pressure. Recently, mainland China's state Administration of Quality Supervision posted a notice to its website, saying that they had detected harmful substances in fruits imported from the Philippines and requested that local Quality Supervision agencies strengthen inspection of fruits from the Philippines. The notice was announced on May 2, and posted to the website on May 8. This is the second time that China has requested strengthening the inspection of fruits from the Philippines in the recent period. Voice of America reported that this is a typical method that the mainland regime uses to apply economic and political pressure, Japan and Taiwan have also suffered such economic threats in the past. The Chairman of the Philippine's Banana-Growers and Exporters Association Stephen Antig told media, some bananas exported to China have already failed inspection. 3 Chinese Fishing Boats Held Hostage by North Korea

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com On May 8, three Chinese fishing boats were held hostage by a North Korean gunboat. This event drew lots of media attention after it was exposed on May 16. The North Korean regime held 29 Chinese fishermen hostage and demanded a ransom of 900000 yuan (USD ~142000). North Korea threatened to "finish off" the boats and fishermen if the ransom is not paid. This act destroys the myth that "Friendship between China-North Korea" is "formed by blood." Commentators pointed out, the so called friendship is only an interest exchange. On May 8, over 30 fishing boats were fishing in the Yellow Sea, around coordinates 123° 57' East, 38° 05' North. Three fishing boats and 29 crew members were detained. The Chinese regime expressed that the fishing areas used are within Chinese territory. On May 9, the owner of the kidnapped fishing boats Zhang Dechang received a message from the captain expressing that the boat was detained and taken to North Korean waters. The kidnappers asked for 400000 yuan per ship as ransom, a total of 1.2 million yuan. On May 15, Zhang received a phone call which threatened to "finish off" the crew and the boats if the ransom was not paid within two days. The fishermen saw people speaking Chinese on the North Korean gunboat and the ransom exchange was arranged in Dandong City, China. Some have suggested that this might be illegal collusion between Chinese gangs and the North Korean military ...

World Bank Lowers China's Growth Forecast

The World Bank released its latest report on East Asia and Pacific Economic Update on May 23. The report lowers China's economic growth forecast. The development model is purely driven by state investment. Low value-added export is unsustainable. The report suggests the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) adopts domestic demand-based stimulative policies. These policies can cut taxes, increase social welfare and implement "market-oriented reforms." Scholars remark that the CCP authorities inherently ignore the people's interests. Its policy of "enriching the regime while impoverishing the populace" will remain unchanged, the experts say. The World Bank report trims China's economic growth rate to 8.2% from 8.4% which it previously predicted. China's economic slowdown will lead to the lowest growth rate of emerging East' economies, says the report. World Bank urged China to adopt domestic demand-based policies to push the economy, instead of just boosting the state investments. The World Bank report suggests some measures: "Fiscal measures to support consumption, such as targeted tax cuts, social welfare spending and other social expenditures, should be viewed as the first priority." Prof. Frank Tian Xie (Business, Univ. of South Carolina): "The World Bank's view is correct, I think. Tax cuts, higher social welfare spending and other social expenditures support consumption, lifting China' economy. The same view was held by overseas scholars and economists over the past years ...

Amnesty International: Harshest Chinese Regime Repression Since '89

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com On May 24, Amnesty International (AI) released this year's State of the World's Human Rights report. It stated that in 2011, the Chinese regime launched one of the harshest crackdowns on dissent since June 4, 1989. Ge Lifang, Chairman of China Petitioner League said that the priority to consider now is whether the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) should still exist. The AI report mentioned various aspects of China's human rights. These included freedom of speech, activists' situations, land robbery and demolition. It also included human rights violations in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and Tibet. The report said that the CCP unleashed one of the harshest crackdowns on dissent since 1989. The CCP were fearful of a protest movement inspired by events in the Middle East and North Africa, in Feb 2011. Harassment, intimidation, arbitrary and illegal detention, and enforced disappearance towards dissent intensified. The report points out that China's economic strength during the global financial crisis increased the country's leverage in the domain of global human rights, mostly for the worse. China's Ministry of Finance 2011 budget report stated internal security spending was US$98 billion. This exceeded national defense budgets. The cost of maintaining "stability" was higher than the total budget of healthcare, diplomatic and financial supervision. Writer Wu Jianguo believes when a regime spends so much moneyto ...

Human Rights Watch Report: China's Para-Police Abuses Citizens

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Chengguan, the city urban administrative officers in China have always been abhorred by Chinese people for their savage and cruel working style. In early May, the organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) announced that "there are serious problems in the CCP's Chengguan system which need to be urgently solved". Later on May 23rd, it released another 76-page-long report in Hong Kong, which describes and further criticizes how Chengguan illegally violates human rights. The report says that, there is still a lack official monitoring of Chengguan officers, who frequently impair public safety rather than protecting it. According to VOA, the international organization HRW named its report released on May 23rd "Just beat them and confiscate all", which is the conventional language used by Chengguan. The report records dozens of cases in which Chengguan has violated human rights by illegally detaining or beating the victims. Earlier on May 8th, HRW said that the CCP's Chengguan system had become the synonym of "illegal killing, use of violence, torture, detention, theft and extortion ". The latest report further pointed out that, "The Chengguan problems in Chinese cities are serious and need to be resolved urgently". According to the report, since 1997 Chinese Chengguan has had a bad reputation for arbitrarily using violence and not being punished even after violating the law. Reality Version of "A Bite of China"

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The issue of unsafe food is very serious in Mainland China. Recently, netizens have listed all unsafe foods that had been exposed in past years to satirize the CCTV's documentary series, "A Bite of China." Netizens said that the documentary series portrays life in a country full of delicious food, but many are concerned that these foods are not safe to eat. How satirical it is! Some commentators said that under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Chinese have been forged to be immunized against all kinds of poisons. Some netizens even made a video criticizing the endless stream of unsafe food. Every night, CCTV broadcasted the 7-episode documentary series, "A Bite of China" (its Chinese title can be directly translated into "china on the tip of the tongue") recently, which attracted many people's attention. The series introduces Chinese food culture. Focusing on the pursuit of Chinese food and life, it uses a series of stories to show Chinese etiquette, ethics, taste and other cultural characteristics that were brought about by food during the thousands years' history. The food producers In the documentary are unsophisticated farmers. For instance, an old lady who has made shrimp paste all her life, a lotus farmer who digs lotus root in the lake at midnight, an old man who fishes in the early morning on the glacial lake, a fisherman who fishes in the vast sea are featured. US Annual Report: China's Human Rights Situation Worse

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com On May 24th , the US State Department released the 2011 Human Rights Report. The Report criticized countries' human rights records, including China, Korea, Vietnam and Iran. 142 pages of the report covered China's human rights which showed the situation continued to deteriorate. However, the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) mouthpiece People's Daily rejected the US criticism. It claimed that the US totally discredited China's human rights, interfering China's internal affairs. Analysts point out the CCP has always chanted "against interfering in China's internal affairs". Instead the CCP takes "one party's dictatorship" for granted. The US State Department released the 2011 Human Rights Report. Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State addressed a press conference. She said the uprising in the Middle East and positive changes in Burma, shows us that "people were demanding their universal human rights." The China's human rights section of the report was 142 pages. It said China was a paramount authority; the country's human rights situation has deteriorated, particularly for freedom of speech and freedom to assemble. As it does every year, the CCP retaliated to the US's criticism. They claimed the US disregarded improvement of human rights conditions in China. They also said the China related content in the report was filled with prejudice. The CCP believed the description of human rights in China was ...

China Blocks News of Physicist Fang Lizhi's Death

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The astrophysicist and Chinese pro-democracy activist, Fang Lizhi, who was an exile in the US due to the 1989 Tiananmen incident, died suddenly in Arizona on April 6. He was 76. While many mourn his death and plan to organize a large-scale commemoration, news of his death was blocked by the mainland authorities. Analysts pointed out that people must not have any illusions about the CCP due to its evil nature and owing countless debts of blood. According to a Twitter message, on the morning of Friday the 6th, Fang Lizhi was on his way to teach. Shortly before leaving, he coughed, fell in his chair, and died. Fang Lizhi was Vice-President of the University of Science and Technology of China. He was one of the best-known Chinese dissidents. He, Liu Binyan, and Wang Ruowang were the three leaders of the 1986 student movement. All three were expelled from the CCP in 1987 and subjected to national criticism. After the 1989 massacre, Fang Lizhi and his wife sought refuge in the US embassy and left China a year later. The sudden death of Fang Lizhi comes as a shock to many. Many people have expressed their condolences, and prepare to launch a commemoration.
