Inspired by the Christmas Food Court Flash Mob, Hallelujah Chorus, the Television Broadcasting students at Algonquin College wanted to showcase the new Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence by lightening the mood with the help of the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir and Darth Vader. www.simpson.edu It's a cold, gray December day in Iowa, and you're stuck at the mall, trying to elbow past all the other shoppers to find that perfect gift for the relative you only see once a year. Suddenly, you hear the beginning notes of, "The Hallelujah Chorus" play over the mall's sound system. It's much louder than the normal Christmas music. You look around. Young people -- 100 in all -- are removing their coats, revealing their Simpson College T-shirts and sweatshirts. And they begin to sing, filling the mall with their glorious voices. That was the scene Sunday at the Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines, where members of the Simpson College choir (along with a few alumni, faculty and staff members) conducted a "Flash Mob" in the middle of the busy shopping season. On Black Friday, an amazing event occurred at the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall in Milford, CT, to the delight of throngs of holiday shoppers! December 22, 2010 - www.hocomojo.com A group of several hundred amateur performers descended on The Mall In Columbia tonight, entertaining mall guests by singing and dancing to Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree in an effort to spread holiday cheer. Organized by Pam Land, Lead Theatre Art teacher for Howard County Public Schools and Theatre Arts Director at River Hill High School, Sally Livingston, Theatre Arts Director at Marriotts Ridge High School, and Ilana and Dave Bittner of HoCoMoJo, the flash mob took shape over the past few weeks as the team picked music and location, recruited performers, and choreographed the dance. "Pam texted me a few weeks ago and said 'I have an idea only you could love.'" explained Ilana Bittner. "Who knew hundred of others would love the idea as much as we did." Land continued "I have been struck for while a by the magical and joyous aspects of flashmobs. The idea that a group of people can come together to create a moment of fun that adds a smile and brightens a day is just lovely to me. This to me, is the bedrock of good Theatre. We need more reasons to share good times as a community. I am so excited at the prospect of something that requires human interface and that can be shared by all generations right in our back yard." Earlston High School Christmas Flash Mob 2011. Organised by (Deputy) Head Girl Caroline and Bex, Earlston's (Next) Top Dancers (or E(N)TDs), the flashmob took place on Friday 16th December after the S6 Christmas lunch. Not only was the flash mob great fun, and a great way to bond the year group together, it also burnt of virtually all of the STP calories and on this basis should be adopted into every household at Christmas as an after lunch activity. Thanks to all who participated and to Basshunter for their elegant and profound rendition of the old Christmas favourite - without them (and Ellen's iPod (and Caroline and Bex (and the PE Department and SMT who both gave us time to practise (and the canteen staff who cooked the wonderful lunch which gave us the energy to get through the flashmob (and the bus drivers who drove us in that morning (you get the drift...))))))
