READ BEFORE WATCHING: This video needs a little explanation. It doesn't follow the series plotline at all. Rather, it is my attempt to cover the remarkable last few chapters of Christy, the novel by Catherine Marshall, while using the existing show footage. If you know the book, I hope the video is self-explanatory. If you're unfamiliar with the book, you should read it ASAP. But in the meantime, here's a breakdown of the events portrayed in the video: -Zady Spencer tells Christy that her mama is sick. -Christy rushes to Fairlight, only to find her delirious and dying of typhoid. -Christy is numb through Fairlight's funeral, but afterwards finds herself questioning her faith and God himself in the wake of her friend's death. -Lundy Taylor comes down with typhoid next, and Christy helps nurse him. -Dr. MacNeill needs more medical supplies, but can't go after them, because he has more patients to see. He sends Christy after them, and she finally sees what's in the doctor's locked room: a laboratory, pharmacy, and an old chest full of his wife's clothes (in the book, Margaret really did die - of typhoid). -Rob Allan brings word that Ruby Mae is sick. Christy and Miss Alice go to nurse her. They are at her side through the night. -In the morning, Christy is so happy to see Dr. MacNeill arriving that she runs out to greet him. -Dr. MacNeill tells Miss Alice and Christy they did just what they should for Ruby Mae, then tries to get them to go home and rest. This is June Christy's Something Cool recorded in the 1950's. She started out replacing Anita O'Day as a singer in Stan Kenton's orchestra and branched out on her own later on. I have searched for some of her material here on YouTube and didn't find much. That's very dissapointing because I love her voice and I feel that she is severely underated. So anyway, this has inspiried me to try out this video thing and make my own with the materials I have of her music. This is my first one so please be kind...I mostly just want people to hear her music. I hope everyone else that wanders around youtube becomes inspired to make and upload their favorite artists or hobbies because there isn't enough quality music out there to enjoy and we need to remind people of the classics and the good things in life. Anyway, thanks for viewing and let me know if you have any tips for future videos because I'm just a beginner and any help would be appreciated. :O)

This group was the brainchild of Randy Sparks who named it after the folk/balladeer troupe "Christy Minstrels" formed in 1842 by Edwin P. Christy. The idea was to bring together a collection of unique talents be they vocal and/or instrumental into one "super-group", and the New Christy Minstrels met with a lot of success early on. "Today" is a song that was used in the soundtrack of a Glenn Ford comedy called "Advance To The Rear", and through the spring and summer of 1964 was a huge hit reaching #17 on the pop charts. At the time of this original recording, the group was in a state of flux so the membership was ever-changing with Randy remaining a constant. Among the many members the New Christy Minstels have had included Kenny Rogers, Kim Carnes, Barry McGuire, Gene Clark of The Byrds, and The Association's Larry Ramos. I would like to personally thank Randy Sparks and Becky Jo Benson of the New Christy Minstrels for their assistance and encouragement in the creation of this video presentation of "Today" for YouTube.

Watch for Gene's solo at 1:09 You can hear Barry McGuire growling under everybody else. :-) Cool the way the tune modulates to major key near the end; VERY MUCH like "I knew I'd want you". In what is probably the biggest irony of my life; my Dad's brother was Randy Sparks' best friend, up until the day he died in the late '90's. Randy begged uncle Walt to stop smoking, which he didn't, and he succumbed to lung cancer. I NEVER met my uncle, but I'm told that Randy was in our house around 1965 playing Guitar; I would have been only 4 years old then, and have no memory of this. Before the Christys became famous, Randy told Dad that he was going to buy him a Rolls Royce when he bcame "Rich & Famous"! The Rolls never materialised. :-) I wouldn't make The Byrds/Christys connection until YEARS after I started playing. Gene left The Minstrels shortly after this, after hearing "She Loves You" on a restaurant jukebox, and headed to California...
