Rouge / Lipstick Mirror Test Gone Wild- 13 months old's Psychology "Experiment"

We had too much time on our hands after dinner on Thanksgiving Day.... A mock rouge test with my laptop video cam monitoring window serving as a mirror by which we could view our image after we placed lipstick on my 13-month-old niece's nose. Not intended to be a replication of the classic Rouge Test studies, but just some family fun. Enjoy!

The Rouge Test with a 17 1/2 month-old

The rouge test is a commonly used assessment of self-recognition. If the individual goes to wipe off the makeup, then it is evidence that he/she recognizes the image in the mirror as his/her own reflection. Since the subject is still younger than 18 months, it is not surprising that she does not attempt to touch her own forehead when seeing the red spot on the "other girl's" head. I plan to post a follow-up video once she "passes" the test.
