Passengers were enjoying their first gala evening meal aboard the Costa Concordia when they heard a "loud bang" and the lights suddenly went out. The holidaymakers were only two hours into their Mediterranean voyage - and reportedly had not even had their safety briefing. Amateur video footage showed calm scenes as passengers walked through the corridors to their rooms to fetch life jackets, unaware of the danger they were in. The crew had reassured them that it was just a generator fault. But the calmness quickly turned to chaos as the boat was flooded with water "within two to three minutes". The vessel quickly started to list dramatically to the left, sending some passengers tumbling down stairwells. The ship then righted itself before listing again, this time to the right - and that was when it started to sink. It was then - at about 10pm on Friday - that Captain Francesco Schettino gave the order to abandon the 290m-long ship with seven short whistles. Footage captured on a mobile phone showed passengers scrambling to get on lifeboats. As soon as I heard about the Aviarios Del Caribe sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica I knew it would be perfect for the Cute Show. It's the world's only sloth orphanage, home to over a hundred very sleepy urchins whose lives have been saved by legendary sloth whisperer Judy Arroyo. Sloths are fantastically weird animals, the junkies of the jungle who seem to spend their lives either nodding off or scratching and occasionally eating a bean or two before drifting back to what looks like a blissful sleep. The babies are especially helpless and comical and I fell in love with them immediately. So I cut a few choice clips together to show my old colleague VBS UK producer Vida Toombs and Cute Show creator Amy Kellner and posted the video on my Vimeo page. A cruise ship with over 4-thousand people on board has grounded off Italy's north-west coast. At least 3 bodies have been recovered, with more than a dozen others still missing. Most of those on board the Costa Concordia were evacuated from the vessel after it hit a reef near the Island of Giglio, late on Friday. Passengers reported a loud bang during dinner, and were told the ship had stopped because of electrical problems.
