Sambunjak points out that while debt levels in Croatia are lower than in many other European countries, many Croatians are nonetheless heavily dependent on government spending. Croatia has high VAT and income taxes, high unemployment, and has been in a recession for over two years. However the black market is flourishing, while tourism in the country is increasing. BOSNIA: MURDER OF MUSLIM CIVILIANS: British troops serving 23.4.93 with the UN have found evidence of the systematic murder of TX Muslim civilians by Croat forces in the village of Ahinici. Villagers were found lying slaughtered in the burned remains of their homes. Ahmići massacre was the culmination of the Lašva Valley ethnic cleansing committed by the Croatian Community of Herzeg-Bosnia's political and military leadership on Bosniak civilians during the Croat-Bosniak war in April 1993. It is the biggest massacre committed during the conflict between Croats and the Bosnian government (dominated by Bosniaks). Ivan Stoiljkovic is reportedly able to stick metallic objects such as spoons, mobile phones and even frying pans to his body. And his family, who live in a village near Koprivnica, say he can carry up to 25kg of metal stuck to his torso at a time. He demonstrated his special talent to local journalists by taking off his shirt and sticking cutlery, a frying pan and even dumbbells to his body. And his family claim he also has the ability to heal people with his hands, alleviating his grandfather's stomach pains and taking away the pain of a neighbour who hurt his leg in a tractor accident. Former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader is on trial for corruption. The case is widely seen as a test of Croatia's anti-graft drive ahead of its accession to the European Union. Sanader is said to have received a bribe of almost half a million euros from the Austrian bank Hypo Group Alpe Adria in the 1990s when he was deputy foreign minister. The Kingdom of Croatia (Croatian: Kraljevina Hrvatska), also known as the Kingdom of the Croats (Croatian: Kraljevstvo Hrvata; Latin: Regnum Chroatorum or Regnum Croatorum), was a medieval kingdom covering most of what is today Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Balkans. Established in 925, it ruled as a sovereign state for almost two centuries. Its existence was characterized by various conflicts with the Venetians, Bulgarians, Magyars and, occasionally, the Pope. The goal of promoting the Slavic language in the religious service was initially brought and introduced by a 10th century native bishop Gregory of Nin. 1102, after a period of time definded as a succession crisis for the Trpimirović Dynasty, the kingdom lost its full-scale sovereignty by the creation of a personal union with the Kingdom of Hungary. The Croatian kingdom de jure existed until 1918.
