(Quaker Steak and Lube Biker Night in Sheffield, Ohio) Transcript - I'm Tony Andrusyszyn from Elyria, Ohio. This is a 1957 Cushman Eagle I restored. It's got an 8 horse power, basically a lawnmower engine in it. It's got a two-speed transmission. These were built in Lincoln, Nebraska. 1957 was the largest year of production, the most popular model. The day this was sold new, it was sold for $329. You were allowed to ride it on the road if you were 14 years old. If you wanted to get the bigger motor, you had to have a parental paper signed from Cushman and okayed between the customer and the company and you were able to get a bigger motor and horsepower. It was a project I picked up one winter, about October of actually 95' and by March of 96' it was on the road. It was just a winter time project. This is a photo of what it looked like the day I brought it home. Like I said earlier, this was sold brand new for $329. I took my wife with me and I pulled it out of the barn of the friend that I bought it from and she said "You paid $450 for that piece of junk?". Now she looks at it and talks about it, tells all her friends about it. I think it's more hers than it is mine. In the early 30's, Cushman starting making lawnmower engines. Scooters trace their ancestry back to France with the Auto-Fauteuil mark in 1902, 1903 in the USA, where Cushman and Salsbury created some of the first motorized two wheelers with the traits that have come to embody scooters. Cushman's light, compact, and rugged scooters were used by the United States military as ground vehicles for paratroopers during World War II. Cushman Motor Works of Omaha, Nebraska, established its reputation by building motor scooters, such as its famous Auto-Glide model. In 1949, Cushman redesigned its 50 series scooter to look like a miniature version of a Harley-Davidson Big Twin or an Indian Chief. The newly named Cushman Eagle motorcycle became the firm's best seller ever.

This is the wonderful tribute that Charlie Cushman did for the legendary banjo picker, Allen Shelton on 11/21/09. Charlie wanted the crowd to make sure to remember Allen in our thoughts and prayers as he had been released from the hospital this week, after a lengthy hospital stay. This morning it was announced on the Bluegrass Blog that Allen Shelton had passed away sometime yesterday. I remember this amazing song of Allen's from hearing my grandfather play it growing up. I believe Charlie did a bang-up job of a tribute and I know I will always remember that we all took a moment to send prayers and positive thoughts to Allen never dreaming we would hear the news today. Please remember Allen's family in your prayers.... This home-made 3-wheeler was our transportation in 1967. It used a rear end (differential) from a 1950's Cushman electric golf cart, a frame from a late 1940's Raleigh bicycle, a 3HP Briggs & Stratton engine with centripetal clutch, a few other parts borrowed from lawnmowers and bicycles, and wheelie bars with a couple of wheels from a junked shopping cart. Very economical, if not exactly street-legal. The photos show numerous small variations in seats, paint, etc. At one point it had a generator and headlight and saw a lot of nightime use, even in winter. With the banana seat in place it could carry three people with the third standing on the rear axle and holding on. The brief video clip was originally done with a Super 8 (film) movie camera. Update September 2011: I've received a number of inquiries asking what happened to this machine. Well, after a couple of bicycle frames developed stress cracks the rear was incorporated in a 4-wheel contraption using the front end from a vintage Wheel Horse garden tractor I acquired from Barg's Lawn and Garden shop where I was working at the time. When my friends and I eventually got our drivers licenses this machine became less important and was sold to a younger enthusiast for about $15. Recently, for no practical purpose, I made a replica of the trike after locating an identical Cushman rear in Montana, complete with original Cushman script-lettered tires. I've posted a short clip of an initial test ride in our garden by a <b>...</b>

Here I am again almost THIRTY years ago, 'reporting' on this Arkansas cave and what's REALLY been found there. While a news reporter for an ABC TV affiliate, I enjoyed my frequent bouts of fluffy tales and nice 'video pieces' when hard news took a vacation. Despite the rumors of a lost civilization, the only thing I located were beercans, graffiti, and bat guano. My wife and I and several friends also explored this cave near Cushman and enjoyed the experience. Wonder if anyone recognizes Doug Harris holding the light, visible as a silouette? Beware, all caves are dangerous.

Finally got this one running after having magneto problems. Turns out the flywheel magnet was weak. I fixed the problem by sticking some neodymium (rare earth) magnets to the flywheel magnet. Previously, I couldn't even get the engine to start. Now, it starts on the first pull!
