Normandy landings From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Normandy landings, codenamed Operation Neptune, were the landing operations of the Allied invasion of Normandy, in Operation Overlord, during World War II. The landings commenced on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 (D-Day), beginning at 6:30 AM British Double Summer Time (GMT+2). In planning, D-Day was the term used for the day of actual landing, which was dependent on final approval. The landings were conducted in two phases: an airborne assault landing of 24000 British, American, Canadian and Free French airborne troops shortly after midnight, and an amphibious landing of Allied infantry and armoured divisions on the coast of France starting at 6:30 AM. There were also decoy operations under the codenames Operation Glimmer and Operation Taxable to distract the German forces from the real landing areas. Bloody omaha was created by Colin Thornton, Neil Wilson and Steven Flynn who run the graphics company Compost Creative . www.Compostcreative.com Team Compost headed out to Omaha Beach for 4 days armed with a Z1 camera, a pop up greenscreen, some soldier uniforms and 2 rubber rifles (we couldnt afford 3), and begun the process of covering the beach (with camera on the cliff top), and re-enacting the veterans moving accounts. When back in London (and back in our real day job) we began to piece together all wed shot using adobe after effects, (and a little 3d modelling in maya) turning the 3 of us into the invading US army. 6 Weeks later the work was completed and provides a moving insight to the US veterans memories of storming Omaha beach, for BBC 2's Timewatch: Bloody Omaha. This is the first level in the 2002 WWII FPS Medal of Honor: Frontline. This is probably my favorite openning level ever. It's extremely intense, even today. The scripting is brilliant and the sound design is so good that it's hard to believe that it's coming from the PS2. Everything about this level is awesome. In regards to the game itself, it's great one. The level design throughout the game is probably some of the best on the system for shooters. The Germans look and sound extremely convincing and use cover often. Weapons are loud and satisfying to use and there is a good variety of them as well. Frontline also has some of the best music on the PS2. Even if you think this game looks dated, I implore you to give it a try. It's a good, old-fashioned shooter that has a lot more charm than most games from the current generation. If nothing else, buy it for the D-Day scene.
