2011 has started on the right foot in jazz music with the highly anticipated release of trumpeter Jeremy Pelt's latest HighNote Records release "The Talented Mr. Pelt." Pelt's disc returns to the days of old with the classic sounding Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard records from the 1960's. Pelt's second disc features JD Allen on sax, Danny Grissett on piano, Dwayne Burno on Bass, and Gerald Cleaver on drums. The disc is a continuation of his last two discs "Men of Honor" and "November." Tracks like "Pandora's Box" and "When The Time Is Right" take listeners back to those classic and warm records made by legendary musicians like Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter on Blue Note Records during the early 1960's. This is also due to the fact it was mixed, mastered, and recorded by famed producer and engineer Rudy Van Gelder. Pelt's current band have been part of his unit for the last 4 years. Pelt was born on November 4, 1976 in Los Angeles, California. He began playing the trumpet while in elementary school. Although he took up classical music, it wasn't until high school where he started playing jazz. He attended Berklee College of Music where he majored in film scoring. What took me by surprise about pianist and composer Gerald Clayton is his ability to play what he thinks, and almost all of the musicians fall in line instantly. That's what I witnessed lately at his performance recently at The Jazz Gallery in New York City in support of his latest Emarcy Records release "Bond: The Paris Sessions." His first two recordings as a leader were recorded with his trio, but this set was the nucleus of a new quintet that featured Dayna Stephens, Chris Dingman, Marcus Gilmore, and Joe Sanders. The 26-year-old pianist has been a brainstorm of both classical and jazz knowledge since the age of two. Born in the Netherlands, but raised in Los Angeles, young Gerald was brought up in the musical household that included his father, bassist and composer John Clayton, and his uncle, saxophonist, Jeff Clayton. Music was destined to be in has blood. Gerald began taking classical piano when he was in his pre-teens. For eleven years he was heavily involved with the rigorous study under the tutelage of instructor Linda Buck. It was his love for jazz that lead him to study at the USC Thornton School of Music earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Studies. If you can cast Blind on them too then the rest of the fight is a walk in the park. You can get Remedy x8 and Elixir x3 or you can use Mug for a Strength Love from Wedge and a Regen Ring from Biggs. You'll get 10 AP for this fight. After fighting Biggs and Wedge and the alarm sounds, you may encounter an enemy called GIM52A in any of the floors above or below. If you want all items and do not have a pocketstation or are not playing the PC version, I suggest you do battles to find them and beat them cause they drop the item Missile and the prison is one of the places where you'll encounter these enemies. You can also Mug it from them if you have the ability. You will need at least 2. One to have Quistis learn the Micro Missiles ability and the other to keep. By the way, you will encounter 2 GIM25A at a battle before leaving the prison so if you do have the Mug ability you can get the 2 Missiles from there. If for whatever reason you fail to get any Missiles here and you really want to complete the Item collection and learn all Quistis' limits you can find these enemies later at Lunatic Pandora on disc 3. Vocalist and songwriter Phil Perry's rise to the top has been a long and fruitful journey. The East St. Louis native got his first break in the music business as the lead vocalist of the 1970's soul group The Montclairs. Nneka Egbuna was born on December 24th, 1981 in Warri, in the Delta region of Nigeria. Her father is Igbo Nigerian and mother is German. Nneka sings in both her native Igbo and English. Throughout her childhood, she attended primary school and was heavily active in her church choir. While growing up in Nigeria, she was exposed and lived through some of the corrupt elements of her government and extreme actions of the oil companies that exploited the workers and townspeople. She always wrote poems and songs shedding some light on the atrocities and to escape her daily woes as a teenager. Upon graduating from high school, she relocated to Hamburg, Germany where she attended the University of Hamburg and earned a degree in Anthropology. Nneka also pursued music where she hooked up with producer DJ Farhot, a producer living in Hamburg. In 2004, she released her debut EP "The Uncomfortable Truth," generating a buzz in countries like Germany, Austria and Switzerland. When her first full-length disc "Victim of Truth" released, it was well received in Germany, England, France, Netherlands, Nigeria and Japan. From then, Nneka toured non-stop, performing at festivals like the Chiemsee Reggae Summer, Haarlem, Den Haag, Saint-Brieuc; as well as in cities like Paris, Amsterdam, and London. Pianist and composer Monty Alexander is having one of the best year's of his musical career. For 50 years Monty has backed and graced the stage for many of the worlds most important musical icons of our generation. But his unique playing style and his deep Jamaican roots has steeped him in the annals of not only jazz, but his country's native roots music. To really understand Monty's legacy, one must experience his latest musical amalgamation called the Harlem-Kingston Express. Over the last week he played to pack houses at the famed Birdland Jazz Club in New York City to rave reviews and dance-happy music fans. The Harlem-Kingston Express is the pianist's foray into his musical youth while growing up in Kingston, Jamaica. While in Kingston, he witnessed and experienced the birth of Ska and Reggae music. This month marks the beginning of the 30th Anniversary of the famed Blue Note Jazz Club. For 30 years, this Greenwich Village staple has been the home of some the most musical icons ranging from Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Rosemary Clooney and Roy Ayers. Many of the greats of jazz, soul, and pop have graced the stage for what many music fans have hailed as the jazz "capitol of the world." What better way to properly kick off the anniversary festivities is to have none other than jazz/R & B vocalist Al Jarreau perform in what would be his debut at The Blue Note featuring the legendary George Duke and his Trio. Duke's trio featured Grammy-Award winning bassist/vocalist Esperanza Spaulding and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. Bassist Michael Manson played with both Al and George while Miss. Spaulding performed at another engagement. The performances were also on the heels of the new recording "Al Jarreau and the George Duke Trio, Live at The Half Note, Volume. 1." This is the first of three vintage recordings that George is releasing when the two were both getting started in music when they performed in San Fransisco, California in the mid-1960's. For almost 30 years the bassist/composer has backed and played with such luminaries like Anita Baker, McCoy Tyner, Melody Gardot, Ornette Coleman, Stanley Jordan, Wynton and Branford Marsalis, and Geri Allen. Charnett has been around music all of his life. His father, the late Charles Moffett. Sr, backed Ornette Coleman. As a child, he developed the Avant-Garde style of playing and composing. His interaction with Coleman allowed him to grow as an innovator in his own right. At age 16 he recorded and toured with Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and began cutting his teeth as a young and budding musician. Charnett has come full circle musically in that he's formed the new "Moffett Family Band" in which he started off playing professionally with his dad and brother. Today, the band consists of his wife Angela on Tambra and spoken word, daughter Amareia on vocals and Bass Keyboard, and his son Max on drums. This unit is special in that Charnett brings some world music influences to the mainstream which give music fans a real taste of his composition skills as well as introduces people to the next generation of the Moffett clan. This nice little method will allow any PS1 game to be played on any console. This includes games from other regions, burnt/backup copies, etc. Note: This does NOT require a mod-chipped console. This nifty little trick can be performed on any PS1/PSone console out there. [I've heard you can do it on a PS2 Slim as well.] What it DOES require, however, is a tiny modification which makes your console think its door is closed when, actually, it is open. I'll be posting a tutorial of this very soon, but for now some Googling will suffice, huh? Written Method: 1. Insert your official black-bottom PS1 game and switch on the console. It should start spinning normally, and then accelerate to around double its original speed. 2. After a couple of seconds it should slow down. At this point, immediately pull out the legit disc and replace it with your backup, which should start spinning at max speed instantly. 3. The backup will slow down. Again, quickly switch the backup back with legit disc. 4. Now, this is where timing is crucial.
