10th Mountain Division Soldier awarded Soldier's Medal

SGT Jacob J. Perkins is the recipient of the Soldier's Medal for his acts of heroism in the early morning hours of July 22, 2011. While traveling home to visit his mother and young daughter SGT Perkins inadvertently became the first responder at the scene of a horrific accident involving a tour bus and a semi-trailer truck on the New York State Thruway. Risking his own life, the Soldier raced towards the bus and pulled several passengers to safety. MG Mark Milley, Commanding General of Fort Drum and 10th Mountain Division said today that SGT Perkins embodies heroism and the Army Spirit.
