Gear is level 333 premade junk. Affliction is a fairly complex rotation with lots of debuffs to take into consideration. Make sure your Improved Soul Fire, Improved Shadow Bolt, Bane of Agony, Unstable Affliction, and Haunt are on the target at all times. Fill in the gaps with Drain Life, which will automatically refresh your corruption; unless there is a break in dps due to boss mechanics, your corruption should never fall off. For this test, I found it much easier to manage my dots with an addon. I used DoTimer from Curse, but any buff/debuff manager addon will do.

All testing is done against a raid boss dummy with no buffs besides basic class abilities. Gear is level 333 premade junk. Frost is a lot of fun. It is based around Frostbolt as your main nuke, with fast reactions to the constant procs of Brain Freeze and Fingers of Frost. It feels like a dynamic dps cycle, despite only using a handful of keybinds. Really, the whole design should be held up as a great example of how to make a character. In order to calculate Deep Freeze, which does not do damage to dummies, I included some heroic footage and recount data. I figure that Deep Freeze does 15% of your personal dps, so I factored that in for a rough estimate of the "real" dummy data. Also, I was not using the new Glyph of Deep Freeze in the heroic footage, so I figured that the 20% from that glyph canceled out the 20% of my damage that came from the water elemental, so I simply took the dummy test results (6600) divided by .85 to get the "final estimate" of 7700. Feel free to criticize that, but the point is: it does great damage, and the heroic numbers with purple gear and a rampage buff supports that conclusion. Fury is a nice, simple rotation involving mashing 4 keys while occasionally hitting a cooldown or three. You have the option of dual wielding 1 handers (Single Minded Fury) or 2 handers (Titan's Grip). Right now, TG is stronger, but they should be balanced in the future (hopefully). Fury is great when you are first learning an encounter and want to concentrate on boss mechanics rather than your own rotation. If the simplicity bores you, Arms is much more technical in nature. Don't forget to refresh Blood Plague; unlike Unholy, you don't have an ability that refreshes everything for free. Don't neglect your cooldowns, either. You can spec either Dual Wield or 2-hander. The rotation doesn't change, and only a handful of talents move around for the other spec.

Incinerate is used whenever Molten Core procs, but otherwise is weaker than Shadowbolt. It's tough, but I couldn't free up the measly two points for Improved Immolate. The changes in the PTR patch include an overhaul of Main Gauche (hits with main hand now) and a buff to Revealing Strike. While testing is normal done against raid dummies, this episode uses heroic tests in high end gear. Though this prevents an apples to apples comparison with other classes, it is necessary due to the problem with Searing Totem aiming at dummies. Enhancement is now largely based around Searing Totem and the dot it applies via talents. Unfortunately, Searing Totem is still bugged and never attacks the right target. Always assume that your searing totem will cause a raid wipe if it can; be aware of the mechanics of the boss or trash mobs you are fighting. Don't use Searing Totem is CC is being used, or if pullable mobs are nearby, etc. In situations where you can use your abilities properly, however, Enhance does very well. It's one of the top dps specs at the moment, and is actually really fun to play. It's uncomplicated enough that you can DPS on complex encounters without losing sight of boss abilities, yet there are enough buttons to press that you don't get bored. Some players suggest using Flame Shock in your rotation to take advantage of the new Unleash Flame buff. However, the 20% damage buff from that spell is actually worse than the 25% critical strike bonus granted to Earth Shock via Stormstrike. So, don't bother with FS. Beast Mastery did very nice, beating all of the rogue specs on the dummy tests. I found that taking Kill Command out of the rotation caused no significant change in DPS, and made the rotation simpler.

Alternate between Wrath spam to reach a Lunar Eclipse, and Starfire spam to reach a Solar eclipse. Maintain your dots through, and hit starsurge whenever it is available. The cycle is moderately easy to manage, but if you aren't hit capped, a badly timed miss can really throw you off. Haste and hit dominate this build.

The other buffs it received don't appear to make up for it. Slam got a huge buff, but it's so weak that it adds very little to overall DPS. Single Minded Fury is closer to Titan's Grip than before, but TG appears to win out in the end.

worldofwarcraft.tgn.tv — Fire Mage DPS rundown (episode 18 of 22) in World of Warcraft Cataclysm! We look at the spec and rotation for a Fire Mage, and analyze the testing results via Recount. All testing is done against a raid boss dummy with no buffs besides basic class abilities. Gear is level 333 premade junk. Fire is a very, very simple rotation. Spam your primary nuke while reacting to the rare Hot Streak proc and manage about three cooldowns. I've tested both Frostfire Bolt and Fireball, each with their respective glyph, and found that Frostfire Bolt currently does more DPS. There is also an RNG factor to consider, so the gulf may not be as large as the data shows (due to mana pool problems with Fire, the sample size is only a bit over 1M damage, instead of 2-3M as I prefer to do). Potent Poisons has been buffed, making it one of the best masteries in the game at the moment. Venomous Wounds has also been buffed, reinforcing the garrote/rupture playstyle. The great warrior rebalancing patch of '11 features a major nerf to heroic strike and cleave, and some compensatory buffs. The talent Lambs to the Slaughter now provides a steady 30% damage buff to all of your major abilities, instead of 30% to just mortal strike. Also, it has a ramp up period (3 stacks) to make it less powerful in PVP. Nice one! Also, War Academy works with Slam and Mortal Strike (and some stuff for other trees) instead of Heroic Strike.

worldofwarcraft.tgn.tv — Arcane Mage DPS rundown (episode 19 of 22) in World of Warcraft Cataclysm! We look at the spec and rotation for an Arcane Mage, and analyze the testing results via Recount. All testing is done against a raid boss dummy with no buffs besides basic class abilities. Gear is level 333 premade junk. Arcane is an overly simplistic and, frankly, boring rotation that involves stacking Arcane Blast 2-3 times and then hitting Arcane Missiles to clear it (or Barrage if AM doesn't proc in that time). You will also want to rotate armors, starting with Molten Armor and 3 stacks of Blast, then switching to Mage Armor and 2 stacks once you get low. Once Evocation comes off of cooldown, switch back to Molten and 3 stacks. Once your gear gets good enough, you might be able to stay on 3 stacks/Molten full time. I just went until the totems ran out. The test is performed in 318 greens (sorry, don't have a 333 blue shaman) and doesn't use searing totem. The results should give you a ballpark of where elemental is in comparison to other specs, which is to say it's doing absolutely great.
