Bij de Brouwers Boulevard Sprint die zondag op de Welle werd gehouden is een zwaar ongeval gebeurd. Vijf personen zijn hierbij gewond geraakt. Twee personen raakten ernstig gewond. Het gaat hierbij om de presentator van de race en een vrouw die stond te vlaggen op de baan. Deze mensen zijn beiden naar diverse ziekenhuizen vervoerd. Van beiden is de vrouw er het ergst aan toe. Het ongeval gebeurde toen een van de racewagens, een Tomage de Pantera bij het remmen voor de finish ineens naar rechts schoot. De presentator werd hierbij geschampt. Daarna werd een fotograaf geraakt. De vrouw tenslotte werd vol door de auto geraakt en vloog volgens een getuige, meters door de lucht. Hulpdiensten waren snel ter plaatse. Voor getuigen werd slachtofferhulp ingeschakeld. Ongeveer 30 personen hebben hier gebruik van gemaakt. De Brouwers Boulevard Sprint werd na het ongeluk direct afgelast. Organisator Han Brouwers spreekt van een groot drama, dat een evenement als dit zo moet eindigen.
