This the Daftman LED / charger light with an automatic solar charging circuit added. The addition is taken off a circuit posted at Talkingelectronics.com. The circuit posted there was for a 'solar garden light'. I took just the solar charging part and added it to the Daftman circuit. This allows the circuit to turn itself off when the solar cell is charging in sunlight and then automatically turns on the LEDs when it gets dark. This now makes the device just like a regular 'solar garden light' only while it is running the LEDs at night , it is also recovering some of the energy into a second battery. This automatic solar charger part should also work on a Joule Thief circuit.

This is a replication of the "Daftman's" one AA battery LED light circuit. It was posted at the "Teep" forum and shows another way besides the 'Joule Thief ' circuit to boost voltage high enough to light a 3 volt LED off of a 1.5 volt battery. I modified the circuit by adding a charging point just past the LED where a second battery can be placed. This circuit uses a small part (looks like a resistor) called an "inductor" instead of the toroid coil used in the Joule Thief circuit. In this video I also show a small transformer added to a standard Joule Thief circuit that drives a small flourescent tube. The tiny transformer is placed between the LED and the charge battery in the circuit.
