Stoke v Liverpool - Dalglish on Bellamy and Andy Carroll fitness | English Premier League 2011

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has defended Andy Carroll following recent criticism of the striker's lifestyle from England coach Fabio Capello. Carroll was a subtitute in England's win against Wales after Capello said: "If he wants to be a good player he needs to drink less than the others." But Dalglish insisted: "His fitness would stand up against anybody's. "I don't think his lifestyle is anything like you want it to be to write a story." Continue reading the main story [Andy] has great respect for Fabio Capello and I think Fabio Capello has great respect for Andy Carroll Kenny Dalglish The Liverpool boss added: "Andy was not properly fit last season because of a knee injury. "We are pleased with his fitness this season because he's lost that injury." Carroll, 22, has started two of Liverpool's first four games in his first full season at Anfield following his move from Newcastle in January. The forward has scored once, in a substitute appearance in the Carling Cup victory at Exeter. - but netted twice against Manchester City last season in a 3-0 win. Dalglish added: "I think Andy is very appreciative of advice from anyone who has a good standing in football. "I think he appreciates Fabio Capello's advice because he has great respect for Fabio Capello and I think Fabio Capello has great respect for Andy Carroll."

Dalglish on Liverpool backing Suarez

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has defended his players after they were criticised for their public backing of Luis Suarez. The team wore T-shirts in support of the striker after he was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra. The move drew criticism from a number of former black footballers, including Paul McGrath and Jason Roberts. But Dalglish insisted: "I don't think the players have caused any trouble." Suarez was given an eight-match ban and fined £40000 by the Football Association after being found guilty of using insulting words to Evra during a game at Anfield on 15 October. Suarez's comments included a reference to the defender's colour. Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Dalglish added: "The statement couldn't have caused anyone any trouble and I don't think the players have caused any trouble with the FA either by their statement or support by their T-shirts." Liverpool insist their player is not a racist and have repeatedly declared their support for the 24-year-old. To reinforce their backing for Suarez, his team-mates issued a strongly worded statement which condemned the FA for its actions. "We totally support Luis and we want the world to know that," the statement read. "We know he is not racist.

Kenny Dalglish on Liverpool v City

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is yet to hear from Lille about any potential deal to make Joe Cole's loan spell permanent. Yesterday the French side's president Michel Seydoux said they could make the 30-year-old an "interesting offer" to keep him full-time. But Dalglish knows of no negotiations between the clubs as yet aimed at making that happen. "He has never spoken to me. I don't know anything about it," said the Scot. "I know they won 2-0 (against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League) and the lad hit the post and is playing well - but he's been playing well most of the time. "It is great for Joe he is doing so well but beyond that I don't know of anything that has happened." Cole has made an impression at Lille and Seydoux yesterday said: "It is not a certainty that he will leave us at the end of his contract. "If he has a certain good feeling with Lille and we can make him an interesting offer this is something that we will look into." /football on Youtube brings you the latest football news, transfer rumours and footballing gossip from the English Premier League and European Champions League.

Dalglish attacks hypocritical FA over Liverpool treatment

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has said the FA did not set a good example by appealing against Wayne Rooney's three-match Euro 2012 ban. Dalglish said: "I find it a bit strange the FA are supposed to be setting an example for things yet they appeal against Wayne Rooney's ban." Rooney's ban, imposed after being sent off against Montenegro, was reduced to two games by Uefa. Dalglish is also unhappy at the FA's treatment of his striker Luis Suarez. Suarez is facing a racism charge dating from October and has also been charged with misconduct after allegedly making an obscene gesture to fans following the Reds' 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Monday. Dalglish is unhappy that no date has been set for the Uruguayan international to answer the racism charge. "The fact it has taken nine weeks to get a decision on one of the other charges is a bit of a joke as well," the Scot told a press conference. "I don't think that has helped as well. The circus which is around about him has been caused mainly by that." A screen was lowered at the conference on which the club played what they said was a series of unpunished infringements against Suarez during the Fulham game. Dalglish has already indicated he thought referee Kevin Friend did not give his team the benefit of 50-50 decisions during Monday's match. He said he fully supported 24-year-old Suarez: "The people at Liverpool and anyone who has any leaning to the club - be it staff, players, supporters - they will stand by him and they know ...

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will miss Saturday's Premier League game against Swansea and England's friendlies against Spain and Sweden. The midfielder has undergone treatment on an infected right ankle, which has been placed in a protective cast. The problem caused Gerrard, who has only just returned after a six-month absence following groin surgery, to miss Saturday's 2-0 win at West Brom. England play Spain at Wembley on 12 November and Sweden three days later. Gerrard, 31, recently revealed his time out with the groin injury was one of the lowest points of his career. The Reds skipper travelled to the Black Country with his team-mates last Friday only for his ankle to flare up on Saturday morning, ruling him out of the victory over Roy Hodgson's team. Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said: "He was in our minds for the game, it just flared up. It's nothing to do with any injuries before, it's an infection." Gerrard only returned to the side as a substitute against Brighton in the Carling Cup on 21 September. Since then he has made two Premier League starts, against Manchester United and Norwich. Gerrard and his wife Alex became parents for a third time with the announcement of the birth of their third daughter, Lourdes. The girl was born at 1600 on Tuesday and weighed 7lb 15oz, the midfielder's spokesman said. Gerrard was present at the birth and "both mum and baby are doing well", he said. /football on Youtube brings you the latest football news, transfer rumours ...

Dalglish on Gerrard injury latest and Utd clash

Liverpool and Manchester United meet at Anfield on Saturday - and the incentive is so great for Kenny Dalglish's side that I am backing them to inflict the first defeat of the season on the champions. It is a bigger match for Liverpool than it is for United, even though it is early in the season. This match is the big test for Liverpool because, at the end of the last campaign, they improved so dramatically under manager Kenny Dalglish that plenty were predicting they could really make an impact this time around. Liverpool spent a lot of money in the summer and started well, only to have a blip when they lost at Stoke City, then delivered a totally unacceptable performance in the 4-0 defeat against Tottenham. They may not have been brilliant in the wins over Wolves and Everton but they got the job done. Now, if they beat United, they will be within three points of them. If they lose, a nine-point difference looks a very hard gap to bridge. This is why I believe Liverpool will be right up for this and I think they will win. They are playing the team everyone regards as the one to beat in the race for the Premier League title. It is a game that has potentially huge ramifications for Liverpool's own confidence and aspirations. If they win, it will send confidence and self-belief soaring - if they lose, it is a long way back. For Charlie Adam, Jose Enrique, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson, this is a new experience, while most of United's squad have played in this fixture ...

Liverpool vs Bolton - Kenny Dalglish on Bolton and transfer latest | English Premier League 2011-12

Liverpool will want to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season when they host Bolton on Saturday. The Reds have made an decent start to the season, with a 1-1 draw against Sunderland and a 2-0 win over Arsenal under their belts so far this term fostering hopes of a title challenge. Kenny Dalglish's side also progressed to the next round of the Carling Cup thanks to a 3-1 over Exeter, avoiding a repeat of last season's embarrassing exit at the hands of League Two outfit Northampton. Striker Luis Suarez has been involved in everything good for Liverpool this season, scoring in each of his three appearances so far this season as well as providing a number of assists. Dalglish will also have been pleased to see Andy Carroll break his duck for the season with a goal against Exeter, and with Dirk Kuyt also in the wings, Bolton could have their hands full stopping Liverpool from scoring. Only captain Steven Gerrard (groin) and fullback Glen Johnson (knee) are unavailable for Liverpool, leaving Dalglish with plenty of options for Saturday's clash. Bolton will also be confident of being able to find the net at Anfield having scored six times in their opening two EPL fixtures. However, their 3-2 loss at home to Manchester City showed they can be vulnerable at the back, and Owen Coyle will need to shore up his defence to avoid a repeat against Liverpool. Coyle also has a number of injury concerns, with Chung-Yong Lee, Stuart Holden, Sam Ricketts and Sean Davis all ...

Kenny Dalglish proud of brave Bellamy | Chelsea vs Liverpool 0-2

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish praised Craig Bellamy after the Wales forward inspired Tuesday night's 2-0 Carling Cup quarter-final victory over Chelsea. Bellamy returned to action little more than 48 hours after being withdrawn from the squad for Sunday's clash with Manchester City on compassionate grounds following the death of friend and former team-mate Gary Speed. And in the second half Bellamy came alive, setting up goals for Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Kelly as Chelsea were swept aside. "Craig is a fantastic footballer who had a hugely disappointing day on Sunday. He regarded Gary Speed as a mentor," said Dalglish. "It was great for the wee man, making the first goal. For the second he took the free-kick. He told Martin to leave it, it was going in! "I don't know if we took Chelsea apart but we were delighted with the way we played. We've had a good day and we deserved to go through." The scrutiny of Andre Villas-Boas' position as Chelsea manager will intensify after the exit from the Carling Cup, brought about by their third home defeat in four games. /football on Youtube brings you the latest football news, transfer rumours and footballing gossip from the English Premier League and European Champions League. [29.11.2011] Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish was delighted with his side's victory but took a swipe at competition organisers for the scheduling of matches that forced the Reds, Manchester City and Crystal Palace - who play on Wednesday and then again on Friday - to play two games in three days. "The way we're progressing is more significant than reaching the semi-final of a cup that's been cheapened by the actions of the people who run it," he said. "But that doesn't mean to say we wouldn't love to win it. We've got our reward and we'll look forward to the next game." "Three teams in the quarter-finals have problems with fixtures. Do us a favour." "I'm not clever but I think I could have avoided that. The solution is to get someone a brain."

Kenny Dalglish Post Match Interview: Liverpool 1-1 Norwich City [22.10.2011] Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish believes Luis Suarez is not getting adequate protection from referees. Suarez felt aggrieved that decisions were not awarded in his favour during the Reds' 1-1 draw with Norwich and Dalglish thinks the Uruguayan deserves more respect from referees. "He needs protection and I don't think he got that out there," said Dalglish. "His integrity has been called into question and I think maybe he is suffering from that at the moment." Suarez remonstrated with referee Peter Walton on several occasions, claiming he was manhandled by the Norwich defenders. And Dalglish feels his player's reputation may have gone before him. Dalglish added: "It is their integrity that needs questioning not his. On the football pitch he is exemplary, a fantastic footballer and we have 100% faith in Luis and the way he conducts himself." Grant Holt rescued a point for Norwich at Anfield after Craig Bellamy had opened the scoring on his return to the first team. But, for all their late pressure, Suarez could not inspire Liverpool to victory against a well-organised Norwich side. "He is a terrific footballer and he's created a lot of chances out there," said Dalglish. "For 90 minutes he was a thorn in their side he just couldn't finish the chances off." Dalglish delight after Liverpool's 2-1 Chelsea win

Glen Johnson's late winner gave Liverpool victory as Chelsea's indifferent run of form continued. The Reds recorded a Premier League double over Chelsea last season - and secured three points again as Johnson produced a moment of individual brilliance to clinch victory with three minutes left. The recalled Maxi Rodriguez crowned a sweeping passing move to give the visitors a half-time lead, but Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas looked to have changed the course of the game when substitute Daniel Sturridge equalised after the interval. Johnson made his spectacular intervention against his former club just as the points looked set to be shared, taking Charlie Adam's pass in his stride before cutting through the hosts' defence to beat Petr Cech.
