Diana Damrau - Liszt Lieder

NEW ALBUM OUT NOW: links.emi.com ... After her sumptuous album of Strauss songs with orchestra, soprano Diana Damrau marks the bicentenary of Liszt's birth with an album of his most celebrated songs in German, French and Italian, accompanied by pianist Helmut Deutsch. In choosing to visit Liszt's songs, the German soprano is venturing into repertoire that, perhaps surprisingly, remains for the most part outside the mainstream of recital programming. Over a period of 45 years Liszt wrote 70 or so songs, making two or more versions of over a third of them. Damrau's collection includes his most frequently heard songs, written to German and Italian texts by, among others, Goethe, Heine and Petrarch. They include the three demanding and exalted Sonetti del Petrarca, the haunting fairytale 'Die Loreley', the evocative 'Die drei Zigeuner' (which reminds us of Liszt's Hungarian blood), and the lyrical, wistful 'O lieb, so lang du lieben kannst', which was to become a 'greatest hit' for the composer in its adaptation for solo piano -- Liebestraum No 3.

NOW FOR THE REAL VIDEO Last little piece of Mozart's 'Exsultate, Jubilate' sung (again, of course, it's me you're reading lol) by Diana Damrau. It's the same piece that used to sound in her official website (www.diana-damrau.com, by the way) intro, just another version she sung in a benefic concert in 2002 with Mehta conducting. Diana Damrau - Poesie (Strauss Lieder)

ALBUM AVAILABLE HERE: links.emi.com .... "This is a performance of transcendent art" proclaimed Opera News on hearing Diana Damrau's interpretation of Strauss' Zerbinetta on her last Virgin Classics album, 'Coloraturas'. In this collection of Strauss songs, recorded in the composer's hometown, she is joined by the Munich Philharmonic and Christian Thielemann, the leading German conductor of his generation. Soprano Diana Damrau, described by The Sunday Times as "the most dazzling star to have emerged from Germany in recent years" was born in Bavaria. The region's capital, Munich, was the birthplace of Richard Strauss, and in March 2009 a programme of the composer's songs was presented at the city's Gasteig Philharmonie, with Damrau accompanied by the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra under its Chief Conductor, Christian Thielemann. "Strauss loved female voices," says Damrau, "and he explores some extreme possibilities in these many-layered songs, each with its different point of view. Sensitivity to the words is vital to telling the story of each song, to capturing the rapid changes of mood and all the colours." Strauss' operatic roles for lyric-coloratura soprano, notably Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Aithra (Die Aegyptische Helena) and Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) have played an important role in Damrau's career. On the new CD, favourites such as 'Ständchen', 'Wiegenlied', 'Allerseelen', 'Cäcilie' and 'Zueignung' feature alongside more rarely heard numbers, and six tracks ...

Diana Damrau - COLORaturA

Diana Damrau - COLORaturA Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. It's impossible to know whether Diana Damrau was born great, but on the evidence of her latest Virgin Classics disc of Mozart concert and opera arias, she has — without question — achieved greatness; surely few contemporary lyric coloraturas could handle this program, which ranges from the sprightly to the sublime, with Damrau's firm technical command, unaffected mastery of characterization and beauty of tone ... More, please. Thus was the response of the magazine of New Yorks Metropolitan Opera Guild, Opera News, to German soprano Diana Damraus last Virgin Classics recital, Donna. In less effusive, though no less positive mode, the BBC Music Magazines critic stated that I cant remember when I last enjoyed a Mozart recital of this kind so much. Among the accolades for Damraus first Virgin Classics recital, Arie di bravura by Salieri, Mozart and Righini was the highly prestiigious Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. After two Virgin Classics recitals of 18th-century repertoire, this new collection moves forward to the 19th and 20th centuries, with repertoire ranging from Nicolai and Rossini to Stravinsky and Bernstein, from comedy to tragedy and covering four languages: German, Italian, French and English. It includes Zerbinettas marathon coloaratura aria from Ariadne auf Naxos, one of the operas which spearheaded Damraus international career Damraus status ...

The famous (and extremely difficult) second aria of the Queen of the Night of Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" sung live in the Salzburger Festspiele (August, 2006) by the unbeatable Diana Damrau ^^ (I must make a remark: SHE WAS SINGING WITH LARYNGITIS). I don't like the dress, but she'd be worth watching even if she was dressed in pink lol Muti was conducting, Pierre Audi was the one with the scenography and Jorge Jara the responsible for the costumes (Blame him, not Diana...)

ROSSINI, Le Comte Ory _ Diana Damrau, Joyce DiDonato, Juan Diego Flórez
