As the soundtrack to a film that doesn't exist, it's pretty clear what Rome is lacking: visuals to validate the musical themes and ideas. Unfortunately, without this aspect, we have to consider only the music, which isn't all that great. Not that anything here is necessarily bad, but the fact is that Rome clocks in at barely over half an hour and doesn't accomplish much. It relies more on its star-studded cast and Hollywood production budget more than songwriting ideas, which is a huge issue. However, because it's still a decently enjoyable listen, these problems don't quite kill the entire album and therefore prevent it from being in the 50s. Recommended if you're looking for something with a chill, kind of grooving vibe, but nothing much deeper than that.
