Coventry Illustrated Souvenir 1946

Illustrations and adverts from this 1946 publication from Deere-Jones & Co., Fine Art Publishers of Jesson Street, Coventry. The sketches are by HL Deere-Jones and feature the "usual" locations such as St. Mary's Hall, St. John's Church etc. as well as a few from just outside Coventry, namely the ruins of Baginton castle and a view of Stoneleigh. The adverts include one for the Coventry Stadium at Lythalls Lane which was home to Greyhound racing. This features in Rob Orland's excellent 1945 film (click the video response link under the video). Many of the shops and firms are long gone but the Chace Hotel and Grimmett & Timms Undertakers still remain.

Bwlch y Moch

Just a nice day out for a walk, took my video camera with me. Had been humming this tune all day, Something I herd on you tube. Filmed 26 08 2007. No one is certain how the Pyg Track came by its name; possibly from Bwlch y Moch (Pigs' Pass) over which it passes. (It is sometimes spelt Pig Track). "Pyg" in Welsh also means 'pitch' and may refer to the dull black pitchy appearance of the path in one location; or it may have been the route used to carry pitch up to the copper mines. A third possibility is that it was named after the Pen-y-Gwryd Hotel nearby, by the early climbers who stayed there." en.wikipedia.org The music is called 'The Parting' a traditional Cornish tune play by 'Harpers Bizarre' Harp Ensemble Cornwall Harp Centre run by Sarah Deere-Jones & Phil Williams Who kindly give permission to use the music Take a look at there page. www.youtube.com www.youtube.com

John Deere Custom Chopper

We built this motorcycle for a bike shop owner that loves bikes and collects old John Deere tractors, so he had us combine his two passions into one. He didn't just want a green chopper, he wanted a bike with as many authentic parts as possible without getting downright silly, so we decided that since he loved tractors of 40s and 50s vintage, a panhead Harley motor would be appropriate. But not just any panhead, an "Outlaw Panhead" from Accurate Engineering in Dothan, Alabama. We got the parts powdercoated and sent out to them, next we got the wheels custom cut at RC Components, and sent those out to be powdercoated also. We got our frame together and went out to some old farm machinery junkyards to scavenge any cool old parts we could find. We made or modified the one-off stuff like exhaust, LED taglight, (that looks like the farm machinery triangle), shifter linkage, shift lever, seat frame with modern rock-shox shock absorber(yes, the seat itself is an actual tractor seat), some old tractor foot pedals perform the foot control duties, and to note: anything you see on this bike that says JOHN DEERE, is authentic stuff from the local tractor supply and John Deere retailer, including decals, fuel sediment filter, oil pressure gauge, and start switch! All are date correct for late 40s-early 50s vintage. Let us know if you would like a great machine built just for you, we love this stuff!
