The 2011 Delaware Arts Summit brought a regional and national perspective of the arts to Delaware for arts organization staff, board, and volunteers. Also in attendance were artists, program planners, educators, arts patrons, and state and community leaders. The keynote speaker is an artist, advocate, and activist: literally the voice of a new generation. Whether heard on the radio, or in the eloquent expression of his thoughts on Sen. Barack Obama as seen in one of the most-viewed YouTube videos of 2008, in his music as leader of the emerging band Soulfège, or acting in Steven Spielberg's "Amistad," the Harvard-educated talent has found myriad ways to inspire, engage, and activate young people with positive messages for social change. He discussed the impact of arts education, his belief that artistry is the most profound form of communication, and the power of content that inspires people to do something good in their lives.
