Van Dieman's Land
Van Dieman's Land is how the song title was originally spelt though the man after whom the Island of Tasmania was originally named is correctly spelt Van Diemen. This song probably came originally from a Broadside in the early 19th century and it found its way into the oral tradition and has been found all over the British Isles. I first came across it in "101 Scottish Songs" Edited by Norman Buchan and he credits his source as Ord's Bothy Ballads. The tune I sing here is the one used in 101 Scottish songs and is a 3/4 variant of Dives and Lazarus (or The Star of County Down - take your pick). Bij de nieuwe Diemen centrale arriveerde november 2011 de gasturbine en generator vanuit Duitsland. Nuon bouwt Diemen-34 direct naast de al bestaande Diemen-33 centrale. Net als de bestaande centrale produceert de nieuwe eenheid naast elektriciteit (voldoende voor 750.000 huishoudens), ook warmte voor de warmtenetwerken van Amsterdam en Almere (voldoende voor 25.000 huishoudens).

www.themorningstarr.co.uk A film telling the story of Australian cannibal Alexander Pearce has made audience members physically sick. Van Diemens Land, starring Neighbours actor Oscar Redding and directed by Jonathan Auf Der Heide depicts the 1822 escape from a prison on Tasmanias Sarah Island by Alexander Pearce and seven other inmates. After escaping Pearce murdered and cannibalised his fellow escapees. Auf Der Heide believes its the films realism which has caused such a reaction with his audience. The vomiting thing was a real surprise to me — we had two people vomit in New Zealand, and a couple of people have fainted during the first killing scene, he told The Mercury. But its nowhere near as intense as a lot of the cinema thats out there today because we did shy away from the gruesome stuff. What people find so gruesome about it is that it is approached as authentically as possible. So there are no blood splatters or any of that stuff that were used to but when it becomes a reality, murder can be mundane and clumsy and ugly. And terrifying. Van Diemens Land has an Australian theatrical release on the 24th September.

Cover of U2's "Van Diemen's Land." In April 2010 I noticed that Lukas' posted a cover of Running to Standstill. I thought the tone of his voice would be perfect for Van Diemen's Land and asked him if he would cover it with me. He graciously accepted, and we finally got around to producing it this month. All I can say is that Lukas is very talented. The tone is all Tech 21 Liverpool and Psionic Audio Triad with a touch of dotted 8th note delay and shimmer from the Axe-Fx Ultra.
