Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 - Yalta - The Grand Finale in Ukraine

Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 comes to Ukraine for season's grand finale Exactly one hundred years after Russian architect Leonid Sherwood started to build it in 1911, the "Swallow's Nest" stages the culminating competition in the World Series' third year. The ornate castle near Yalta on the Crimean shore in southern Ukraine provides the perfect backdrop for the crowning of this year's champion. The 'Grande Nation' is eagerly waiting for its high diving hero's first podium finish: Cyrille Oumedjkane has proven his claim for the top 3 this season. Will his countrymen's support help him to step on the podium? It will be a special stop for the Frenchman but likewise for his competitors as well as the set-up crew: The venue provides the World Series' highest take-off point and the water-tide offers a limited time frame for the competition. Additionally, the platform construction must not touch the almost 700 year-old tower. www.redbull.com

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 continues at the birthplace of modern competitive sports, Athens, Greece, on Sunday, May 22 in an event you can see live on Red Bull TV. Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2010 - United States - Power and balance

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2010 is back in the sport's birthplace 'Mana' and 'pono', power and balance -- these old Hawaiian principles were crucial when lele kawa, diving off cliffs, was born on the islands in the midst of the Pacific back in the 18th century. They are principles that have been upheld and are today prerequisites for the sport of high diving. It was from a rock made of lava that the last independent chief of Maui, King Kahekili, jumped in the late 1700s. The site of Kahekili's Leap has ever since then been regarded as the birthplace of the majestic sport of cliff diving. RedBullCliffDiving.com

Remember way back to the high dive in elementary school, you were scared to jump, too many variables, too many things that could go wrong. But you did it. Now try to imagine that same high dive over 90 feet tall. The extraordinary height with strong winds can really challenge the body and the mind. One must be committed physically, and have the ability to face fear in the eye. Gary Hunt showed France that he has that ability by starting his dive upside down on the edge of a 27.5 meter platform.
