Pachelbel's canon in D Major - Romantic Modernized Version

This is one of the most popular compositions in the classical world which was composed during the baroque era in the 1680's by Johann Pachelbel. Performed by the Slovak Chamber Orchestra. This is a non-HIP(Historically Informed Piece) adaptation of the Canon, which means this is NOT the original "version" of the piece, as Pachelbel composed it. If you're looking after a good HIP performance, I suggest listening to Musica Antiqua Köln's, that can be found under "Video Responses". Highly recommended, enjoy! You can find the mp3 here: www.megaupload.com I've uploaded the file again to RapidShare: rapidshare.com Sheets: www.sheetmusicfox.com

I think this is one of the best orchestra pieces in the world. Its fantastic. The video is set on a plain violin picture. But imagine a whole orchestra playing it. It really is beautiful. And if you would like to know, I first heard this in the anime "La Corda d'Oro". It is a great anime. It has many orchestra pieces. Please enjoy! :-)

Pachelbel Canon in D Original Instruments

Support our videos! voicesofmusic.org Johann Pachelbel's beautiful interweaving of melody & harmony--one of the great works of music! Soundtrack at tinyurl.com Performed on original instruments by San Francisco Early Music Ensemble Voices of Music. Featuring Katherine Kyme, Carla Moore & Cynthia Freivogel, baroque violin; Tanya Tomkins, baroque cello, Hanneke van Proosdij, baroque organ; David Tayler, theorbo. About the performance: the canon is played using not only the instruments but also the bowing techniques from the time of Pachelbel. As you can see from the video, especially if you look at the high definition version, the string instruments are not only baroque, but they are in baroque setup: this means that the strings, fingerboard, bridge and other parts of the violin appear just as they did in Pachelbel's time. No metal hardware such as chinrests, clamps or fine tuners are used on the violins, allowing the violins to vibrate freely. A good example of baroque bowing can be seen in the extended passage of repeated notes: the musicians play these notes on one bow—the shorter & lighter baroque bow—to created a gliding effect. The players also hold the bow very differently which affects the balance and touch. Both the style and the amount of vibrato are based on baroque treatises which describe the methods for playing, bowing & articulation in the late 17th century. The narrow, shimmering vibrato blends with the baroque organ. The organ used is made entirely of wood <b>...</b>

Mozart - Symphony No. 35 in D Major "Haffner" - Mov. 1/4

WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART (1756-1791) Symphony for orchestra and timpani in D major K385 "Haffner" 1. Allegro con spirito Performed by The English Concert Directed by Trevor Pinnock *Symphony No. 35 in D major, K. 385 was composed in 1782 and is also called the Haffner Symphony. It was commissioned by the Haffners, a prominent Salzburg family, for the occasion of Sigmund Haffner's ennoblement. The Haffner Symphony should not be confused with the Haffner Serenade, another piece Mozart wrote on commission from the same family. The Haffner Serenade, K. 250, is in eight movements and was composed six years earlier in 1776. The Haffner Symphony did not start its life as a symphony, but rather as a serenade to be used as background music for the ennoblement of Sigmund Haffner. The Mozarts knew the Haffners through Sigmund Haffner's father, also Sigmund Haffner, who had been mayor of Salzburg and who had helped them out on their early tours of Europe. The elder Haffner died in 1772, but the families remained in contact. In 1776, the younger Haffner commissioned a serenade for the wedding of Marie Elizabeth Haffner to Franz Xavier Spath. This work became the famous Haffner Serenade which was so successful that, when the younger Sigmund Haffner was to be ennobled, it was only natural that Mozart was called upon to write the music for the occasion. The request to write music actually came via Mozart's father on 20 July, 1782 when Mozart had no spare time. Mozart was "up to his <b>...</b>

Haydn - Piano Concerto in D Major Hob. XVIII: II - Mov. 1/3

FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN (1732-1809) Concerto for pianoforte and orchestra in D major Hob. XVIII: II 1. Vivace Performed by the Freiburger Barockorchester Featuring Andreas Staier, pianoforte Conducted by Gottfried von der Goltz *This concerto was likely written later in Haydn's life, perhaps shortly before the first publications of it appeared in 1784. It was Haydn's most popular piano concerto during his lifetime and was the only one to remain in the repertoire since it's publication. The third movement titled "all'Ungarese" is based on a dance melody that may be of Croation origin.

Mozart Symphony 38 D Major 'Prague Symphony' (1/4)

www.youtube.com Sir Charles Mackerras Prague Chamber Orchestra Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his Symphony No. 38 in D major (the "Prague"), K. 504, in late 1786. It was performed in Prague on January 19, 1787,[1] a few weeks after Le nozze di Figaro opened there. Although Mozarts popularity among the Viennese waxed and waned, he was consistently popular among the Bohemians and had a devoted following in Prague. A piece appearing in the Prager Neue Zeitung shortly after Mozarts death expresses this sentiment: "Mozart seems to have written for the people of Bohemia, his music is understood nowhere better than in Prague, and even in the countryside it is widely loved." The Prague Symphony was written in gratitude for their high esteem. It had its premiere in Vienna, on December 6, 1786, and was performed in Prague a month later. The Prague Symphony was scored for full orchestra with the notable absence of clarinets but with the powerful backing of timpani and trumpets. The work has the following three movements: 1. Adagio—Allegro D major. Sonata form, preceded by introduction Adagio. 4/4 2. Andante G major. Sonata form. 6/8 3. Finale (Presto) D major.

Rinat Ibragimov, principal double bass of the London Symphony Orchestra together with Catherine Edwards, performs Jan Křtitel Vaňhal's Double Bass Concerto, originally written in Es Major but performed here a semitone lower. This popular piece of double bass repertoire is commonly called for in auditions, and here Rinat demonstrates its performance using the original bass part and the Viennese Tuning that would have been in vogue at the time of its composition. Rinat plays a d-bass by Matheus Albany, a gift from his colleague and friend Alexander Stepanov. He uses Pirastro Eudoxa strings. In this 1961 performance, fifty-seven year old Nathan Milstein (1904-1992) performs the Tchaikovsky violin concerto in D major, Op. 35. William Steinberg leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. So that there is no question in the mind of those as to the provenance of the recording to which they are listening, I rely principally on images of the LP (side 1, 4:12; side 2, 24:16) and LP jacket (front, 4:48; reverse, 29:06) in order to document the authenticity of historically important recordings such as these. 1. Free Improvisation in D Major (Ionian Mode) -- piano solo

FOR STEREO CLICK HERE: www.youtube.com I may need to say a word about free improvisation, and what that term means to me. Free Improvisation could imply no rules and no forethought at all. That is probably the most common understanding. This piece was spontaneously composed and played, however, there were some limitations (rules) imposed and some forethought involved. I restricted myself to playing only the 7 notes of the D ionian mode (DEF# GABC#). This is the same as the D major scale. No other notes were played. I only use chords constructed from this modal scale. Setting restrictions actually helps in free improvisation because it narrows your options and makes choices more clear. I also think there is a lot of value in improvising on 7 note modes because it deepens the understanding of 12 note playing when using more complex voicings. In terms of forethought, I had two very short melodic motifs that I used as my base. These little pieces of melody set the structure of the piece and give me something to play off of.

Pachelbel's canon in D Major - Very nice version

This is one of the greatest hits in the classical world which was composed in the 1680's by Johann Pachelbel. Sight-reading it with colleagues on 2 Guadagnini,1 Stradivari Violin and a Steinway in Sweden at 3 am :-) Probably the most juicy canon on YouTube!!! :-) www.alexandergilman.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pachelbel's Canon, also known as Canon in D major, or more formally Canon and Gigue in D major for three Violins and Basso Continuo (Kanon und Gigue in D-Dur für drei Violinen und Basso Continuo), is the most famous piece of music by Johann Pachelbel. It was written in or around 1680, during the Baroque period, as a piece of chamber music for three violins and basso continuo, but has since been arranged for a wide variety of ensembles. The Canon was originally paired with a gigue in the same key. The piece, whose score was discovered and first published in the 1920s, and first recorded in 1940 by Arthur Fiedler[1], is particularly well known for its chord progression, and is played at weddings and included on classical music compilation CDs, along with other famous Baroque pieces such as Air on the G String by JS Bach (BWV 1068). It became very popular in the late 1970s through a famous recording by the Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra. A non-original viola pizzicato part is also commonly added (in a string orchestra or quartet setting) when a harpsichord or organ player is not used to improvise <b>...</b>

Jean Sibelius - Symphony No. 2 in D Major Op. 43 (1902), Mvt. 1 and 2 (Leonard Bernstein)

www.sibelius.fi The second symphony is the most popular and most frequently recorded of Sibelius's symphonies. It is more skilfully orchestrated than the first symphony. The ideas of form are more mature and the violent Slavic gloom is replaced by a more classical touch and by the light of the Mediterranean. The heroic and optimistic first and final movements of the symphony were exactly what the Finnish public needed in 1902, during a period of Russian oppression. The first public performance consolidated Sibelius's fame as a national hero. Soon the symphony was also triumphantly acclaimed abroad.
