EDIT: THE TAB IS NOW POSTED ON MY WEBSITE Recently I had a request for a tab for Abe Lagrimas Jr's arrangement of the classic Beatles tune, Blackbird. I remember seeing a video a number of years back when Abe performed at the New York Uke fest. I believe he was playing a solid body ukulele and at that time the arrangement didn't seem to grab me. However, a more recent video posted on the Hawaiian Music Supply channel where Abe is playing his acoustic Ko'olau did in fact get my attention. Not sure when I will get to it but I do plan to put a tab together based on my recorded version in this video which is basically my interpretation of Abe's arrangement. I had the privilege of sitting in and playing a few tunes with my good friend Kirby Keough while visiting Kauai a couple of weeks ago. One of the songs we always jam on is Henehene Kou `Aka. Ive been meaning to either do a tab or tutorial for this one for quite some time but just never seemed to get around to it. Tonight Im posting up a video tutorial that presents my approach to the intro and verse sections of Henehene based loosely on the version IZ plays on his Facing Future CD. This video isnt as detailed as some of my previous tutorials and it still went beyond the 10 minute limit imposed by Youtube. I was hoping to be able to get it all on just one video but it didnt work out that way. I will present the solo in another video in the next few days. Though not as detailed, I believe this tutorial will give you a good idea of how Im approaching the tune and have you well armed to play it with your friends at the next club meeting or jam session. After Transcribing Paul Luongo's wonderful arrangement of Tears in Heaven a few weeks back I thought I would attempt to record a video. My video is not intended to be a faithful duplication of Paul's arrangement and in fact I play some of the parts a little different than what is notated in the tab. I've even omitted the C6 chord from the bridge. I just love the chord changes in this one. This is one of Jake's best arrangements from his Gently Weeps CD. I started working on it a couple of days ago and tried to record it last night. The uptempo part (which I've slowed down a fair bit) is a real challenge for me. I did two takes and made a number of mistakes in both so I had to merge the two at the 1:10 mark. I'm determined to get through the entire arrangement in one take and eventually replace this video.
