Ok so i probably could have tuned them closer, but they did sound the same from the top (must have been a bottom-head thing). Anyway, you still get an idea of what these different woods have to offer and how they both react in different situations. I must say i prefer my own (left) in person, but the purpleheart one just records like a dream! Both of these snares were and made by Dean Price of Guru Drums to custom specifications. They are both 13x7 stave shells with 1/2" thick shells and Dean's signature bearing edges. They both have die-cast hoops and 8 full length tube lugs. Left snare has Evans St dry over hazy 300 with puresound twisted snare wires. Right snare has Evans super tough over hazy 300 with puresound blaster snare wires. brand new 2 ply steambent hoops! These things weigh a ton too. They dry out the drum a bit, and concentrate the overtones. Guru will make steambent hoops but not anymore of these purpleheart ones as they're unbelievably hard to make. He also offers segmented hoops in any wood. Kit is an old premier of some kind! This is my 8x14 Allstar aluminum snare drum. The shell is aluminum, the lugs are aluminum tubes and both are made by Allstar Drumworks. The throw is a 3-way aluminum strainer by Trick and the hoops are aluminum die-cast. There is also a 42 strand snare on this drum. The shell and hoops are anodized, which Allstar also provided as well and the assembly of this killer drum.

All solid shell (a la craviotto), these drums just sing!!! this kit comprises of a 22x20 kick, 10x8 rack and 14x14 floor, all made with 1 ply of walnut. The shells feature reinforcing hoops (as they are rather thin to improve resonance), Guru's exclusive mini tube lugs and an amazing hand rubbed finish. The Snare in this video is a 1ply 14x5.5 ash snare, with 3ply wood hoops, with a stained exterior (not lacquered or veneered) cymbals are aax 20" stage ride, 15" aaxplosion crash and 14" stage hats. I think SO! It's about time I showed off my amazing Guru snare drum again! I recently swapped my STdry batter head for a genera dry wanting more sensitivity. However, the perimeter flap on the GD choked the drum too much so i took it out...with sexy results! I know some of you guys won't like the subtle high-frequency ring after each hit but I was getting tired of a snare head that didn't open up as much as I wanted. Snare is 13x7 Guru Drumworks Stave. Hello again! well, i'm back after a loooong time away. Moving house and getting a new job eats into your time a bit! Here we have a short review of the Evans Strata 1000 over the hazy 300 orchestral drum heads. The strata 1000 is essentially a g1 weight head with a different coating, giving it more warmth and a drier, darker sound. Cranked up this baby sound ridiculous but it is full and sonorous low down. With ultimate sensitivity and infinite tone, these rather unconventional heads will realise your snare drum's true potential. I'll put up vids with different tunings/with a kit if you guys want! For now though, i'll let the snare itself do the talking. The drum is a Guru Drumworks 14x6.5 Purpleheart/Steel one ply steambent split shell. This is a friend of mine's snare drum based on my own 13x7 stave guru which i got last year (check out part 1: www.youtube.com Being solid purpleheart it has a higher fundamental than other snares but doesn't lack in body. The crack on the rim-shots are pretty mind-blowing (or gut-busting). The 1/2" thick shell and signature bearing edges make for a drum with character, presence and sensitivity. It features die cast hoops, 'spiky' full length tube lugs, evans super tough over hazy 300 and puresound blaster snare wires. Just a quick warm up before a rehearsal at base hq, newcastle. Its not really a drum solo, just a few groove ideas and practising my triplets a bit. I've recently tuned my snare up a bit and it sounds great! also experimenting with the 1 up 2 down setup and i must say i really like it!
