Serial number ("152199") impressed into the back of the headstock. The body of the guitar is multi-bound on the top (seven-ply) and the back (three-ply). With an orange oval label inside the bass f-hole with style ("ES-355TD") written in black ink and the serial number ("152199") stamped in black. Individual Grover Roto-Matic tuners with tulip-shaped metal buttons. Two humbucker pickups with black surrounds and outputs of 7.52k and 7.37k. Tortoiseshell pickguard with five-layer (white/black/white/black/white) plastic binding. Four controls (two volume, two tone) plus three-way selector switch for pickup selection and six-position Varitone rotary switch for tonal settings, all on lower treble bout. Black plastic bell-shaped "Bell" knobs with metal tops and a gold circular plate with the numbers in black around the Varitone switch. One of just one hundred and seven ES-355TD Mono's made in 1961. Thisguitar weighs just 8.70 lbs. and has a nut width of just under 1 11/16 inches and a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Laminated maple body with semi-solid construction and maple central block, one-piece mahogany neck with a medium profile, and bound ebony fretboard with 22 wide jumbo frets and inlaid pearl block position markers. Headstock with inlaid pearl "Gibson" logo and pearl five-piece split-diamond inlay. Two original PAF humbucker pickups with black surrounds and outputs of 7.47k and 8.44k. ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic non-retainer bridge with metal saddles and Gibson 'Sideways Vibrola tailpiece. All hardware gold-plated. There is no fading whatsoever to the deep red cherry color. There is one very tiny area of surface loss on the back of the guitar (3/8 of an inch x 1/8 of an inch), some very fine finish checking, a few small surface marks on the side of the body and two small surface marks / indentations on the back of the neck behind the thirteenth fret. Housed in the original Gibson black hardshell case with four latches and orange plush lining (8.75).

When it was first introduced in 1958, the ES-355 style was the world's first thinline archtop semi-electric guitar, a bold new design that combined the cutting, bell-like sustain of a solid body with the darker, complex tones of an archtop semi-acoustic. The ES-355 also incorporated the humbucker pickup, a relatively new design that would also be quickly embraced by both rock and blues players. Rush Alex Lifeson Gibson ES 355

This is an all original 1959 Gibson ES-355 that came into the DGN Custom Guitars repair shop for major repair work. The original frets were worn to the point of unplayable, and at some point there was a poorly done partial Re-Fret to 3 frets that were much higher than the rest. I performed a full Re-Fret on this guitar as well as a new hand cut bone nut and a full setup. After some cleaning of the electronics this old guitar was ready to rock once again. These are some of the best PAF's I have ever heard. They scream and have that bite that good PAF's are known for. One of the very first of just 174 ES-355TD/SVs made in 1961. This lovely example weighs just 9.20 lbs. Laminated maple body with maple central block, one-piece mahogany neck with a typical '60 profile, bound ebony fretboard with 22 frets and inlaid pearl block position markers. Two PAF 'double-black' pickups with black plastic surround and outputs of 7.65k and 7.92k. ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and factory Bigsby vibrato tailpiece. All hardware gold-plated. This is an exceptionally fine (9.00) example of the "top-of-the-line" thinlines. Housed in it's original Gibson five-latch brown hardshell case with pink plush lining (8.75).
