The HER-02 is an all-electric race car that beat all other electrics in the 2011 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, placing 21st out of all 71 vehicles. The HER-02 raced up a 12000-foot summit on a 12.4-mile course with 156 turns in 12 minutes and 20 seconds. The car is a collaboration of Summit Motorsports from Japan; Yokohama Tire Corp., and AC Propulsion, an electric drivetrain manufacturer in San Dimas. Los Angeles Times reviewer Susan Carpenter takes the HER-02 for a spin at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

I'm looking forward to being the third. The first step was to purchase a donor car. I found a 1987 Mitsubishi Tredia with a seized engine but otherwise in good condition for $180. After towing it home, we then had to figure out a way to get it up the drive and into the garage to begin removing the planet-killer bits under the bonnet. In the next video we start taking it apart... I can't wait to get that "EV Smile" that electric car owners talk about so much.

Danny Kim has started his own car company, though, except for the old Land Rover he converted to run on biodiesel, his "cars" all have two wheels. He's patented a couple of electric cargo scooters, one of which folds up entirely to fit in elevators, pickup trucks... your apartment. The vehicle that could put Lit Motors on the map is his C1. Part motorcycle, part car, he calls it a cyclecar. It's two-wheeled and tilts and leans like a motorycle, but it's fully enclosed and steers like a car. And best of all, thanks to gyroscopes, it doesn't fall down. The Lit Motors design house in San Franciso's SOMA is layered with his designs. Gav's EV Conversion 10 - Installing the Motor

After a bit of a delay, the adapter plate has been created and mated to the gearbox, and the motor has been installed into the Tredia! We had a few delays along the way with problems finding an engineer, our wedding being overseas, the adapter plate & motor not fitting in the first time, and THEN having to get a mounting bracket welded up. Whew, there's a bit of work involved in getting the motor installed but at long last it's in! I noticed in the video that we make that heavy motor look light & fluffy lowering it into the Mitsubishi. It is not. I think it was due to editing out all swearing and straining noises from the video. :) I can finally say the motor has been installed into the car and I think a big Yeeehhhaaaa is in order. That's one small step for Gavin, but one giant leap for Gav's EV conversion.

2012 Toyota RAV4 EV prototype debuts in LA
After months of speculation and teasing, Toyota has officially unveiled the RAV4 EV prototype. Jointly created with Tesla, as part of their $50 million dollar agreement to collaborate on EV technology, the RAV4 features a lithium metal oxide battery which has an energy storage capacity "in the mid-30 kwh range." The company declined to release detailed information, but the Tesla-sourced electric motor (presumably the 215 kW one from the Roadster) will enable the crossover to travel up to 100 miles (161 km) on a single charge. Furthermore, Toyota stated the EV weighs 220 pounds (100 kg) more than the RAV4 V6 and will accelerate from 0-60 mph almost as fast. As part of the conversion, Toyota engineers were forced to modify the suspension, install a new steering system, and relocate several major components to optimize weight distribution. Design wise, the RAV EV is distinguished by a new front bumper, a revised grille, restyled headlights and LED fog lights. The crossover also features a custom "mutually exclusive" paint color and plenty of EV badging. Inside, there's a new instrument cluster, a push-button shifter, and special seats. More importantly, the EV retains the same 73 cu ft (2067 liter) cargo capacity as the standard RAV4. The production model will be launched in 2012, alongside the Prius PHV (plug-in hybrid) and a small EV commuter vehicle.

Each wheel motor has a claimed 250Nm - 1300Nm of torque (depending on which report you read) but Michelin claim 0-60 in ONLY 12 seconds from an 850 kg car which suggests more towards the 250Nm end of the scale. It can brake at more than 1G without any mechanical brakes. It also has active suspension using a 2nd electric motor in each wheel. The whole set up uses a single suspenion pick up point, custom made hubs and custom wheel... expensive and virtually impossible to retro-fit to other cars. Q- Do I have to keep using the EV training items after I'm done EV Training? A- No, once you're done, you're done. Train it however in the world you like afterwards. Q- Can I use Rare Candies after I'm done EV Training. A- As I mentioned before, you can train it however in the world you want after its done EV Training. This includes Rare Candy. Q- This isn't working! How come I didn't get +30 in a stat like I saw in other EV Training videos?! A- My Squirtle didn't get +30 either, in case you didn't notice. But keep in mind that Pokemon only gain 1 Stat point from their EVs once every few levels. If the Pokemon was at a higher level to begin with before EV training, the game will make up for all the levels it has already passed where an EV WOULD HAVE been added, resulting in those bigger stat increases you saw. Just because you didn't get it with your level 5 Pidgey, it doesn't mean you screwed up. When Black & White comes out, don't ever expect those big stat increases to happen again. Mechanics have changed and EVs will be added right away. Q- What Pokemon do I fight for certain stats and where? A- Here are some links to Serebii on what Pokemon give what stats. GM to launch Chevrolet Spark EV in US next year
GM will be launching an all-electric version of the Chevrolet Spark in the United States in 2012. The Spark EV will be based on the Chevrolet Beat EV concept unveiled in India earlier this year. The Beat is the name given to the Spark model in certain global markets. That concept featured a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery powering a 61 PS (45kW / 60 hp) electric motor. Range on the Beat EV concept is 130 km (81 miles) and charging takes less than eight hours using a 240V outlet. But GM won't offer the Spark EV in some US-regions and marketing will be focused primarily on California in order to meet that state's Zero-Emissions Vehicle mandate. Volumes will be low, around 2000 units a year. A gasoline-powered Spark will debut in the Chevrolet lineup as an entry-level vehicle early in 2012. The US-market Spark will feature a new front fascia that differs from the global Spark seen in the photos published here. The Chevrolet Spark EV will be launched in late 2012 as a 2013 model.
