The differences that separated the band's two main songwriters, Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug, are slowly disappearing. The loud, voluminous production on this release makes for a highly visceral experience, but Dan fits into this mold much easier than Spencer does. It's the most no nonsense this band has ever been, but they've dampened their idiosyncrasies a bit in the process. This is still an admirable record, though, and one hardcore fans are probably going to enjoy more than me. Yeosu Expo 2012 with its village of pavilions shows the country's determination to raise global awareness of the need for marine protection. Decorated with the symbol of the Korean flag, the pavilion of the host country has one of the more eye-catching designs on the Expo site. Once inside, the visitors who will be flocking here for the next three months are invited to take part in a traditional dance, before being shown a video on the huge dome screen which measures 30 metres in diameter. The futuristic Sea Orbiter of architect Jacques Rougerie, is central to the French pavilion. It uses currents to drift across the ocean and is a prototype, as designer Jacques Rougerie explains, "It's a vessel which can sail along the Gulfstream with 18 passengers on board who can continually gaze below the surface." Construction of the Sea Orbiter could start before the end of the year. Visitors of the Spanish pavilion enter a darkened space illuminated by the changing lights of the tubes with samples of water collected from 5000 metres below the surface. STORY: Even in an economic downturn, technology companies and research institutes must carry on planning the technologies that will shape our lives in the future. The Jetsons' vision of robots in the home may not be too far off. One such robot is Justin. Its developers at the German Aerospace Center DLR see robots helping with the chores both at home and in space. [Cristoph Borst, German Aerospace Center]: "We are developing this robot for duel use. One use is in space as a robonaut. Because we are a German aerospace centre and another use is for domestic applications. So we plan to have it as a service robot in the household." The German research organization Fraunhofer specializes in turning scientific concepts into practical applications. They have brought an image of how our bathrooms may be designed in the future. [Dr. Edwin Noraska, Fraunhofer Researcher]: "This project is about helping people growing old in their home and for this purpose the system reminds people to follow a special sequence, for example to wash their hands when they get up from the toilet." A new art exhibition has opened at the Martin Gropius Bau Museum in Berlin. Katsushika Hokusai was a famous Japanese artist, painter and printmaker. Born in 1760, his most famous works were produced towards the end of his career, after the age of 60. Seiji Nagata, the exhibition's curator said: "The few exhibitions which taken place around the world have only shown the most famous images like "The Great Wave Off the Coast of Kanagawa". But we wanted to highlight the variety of his work throughout his 70-year career, including early works from his 20s." ... www.euronews.net
