Three-Wheel Electric Cars Gaining Popularity across China

For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me Small three-wheel electric cars are becoming popular in densely populated cities across China, especially Beijing. This is because owners don't need a license to drive an electric vehicle, or EV, as it's currently not classified as a car in China. And commuters can use the city's bike lanes to dodge the notorious traffic congestions. It's a convenient mode of transport for many. [Li Hongming, Teacher]: "This kind of vehicle is smaller than a gas car. You don't need to sit in traffic jams. It saves time, and it doesn't need gas, which is quite expensive, so you can save money." The hooded three-wheel EV cruises at a maximum speed of about 19 miles an hour. It uses a removable battery that can be charged from a regular electrical socket at home. EV retailers say sales are booming. [Feng Luya, Shop Owner] "Now each month we can sell 50 to 80 vehicles. The customers say they're really useful." The price of a three-wheel EV ranges from $600 to $1500—making it highly affordable. Cheaper, slower-speed EVs sell faster than the high-speed models. Even the highly state-subsidized BYD E6 high-speed model still costs about $60000. This is way above what most city dwellers can afford. In rural China, farmers prefer the larger four-wheeled EVs with a top speed of 30 miles an hour. Last year, the Shandong Shifeng Group—a manufacturer of the slow-speed four-wheel EVs—sold 70000 ...

Due to heavy snowfall of the previous days, Helsinki was covered with thick blanket of snow. The nine participating electric vehicles started their motors on a parking lot next to Helsinki Olympic Stadium and drove a route that consisted of some of the major streets in Helsinki with a detour to the shore of frozen Gulf of Finland. Toyota Nürburgring electric vehicle record setting lap - in car footage

Toyota has set a new electric vehicle lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Driving a modified Radical, dubbed the EV P001, Jochen Krumbach completed the 20.8 km (12.9 mile) long course in 7 minutes and 47.794 seconds which buried the previous record of 9 minutes and 1.338 seconds that was set by the Peugeot EX1 concept. According to Rob Leupen, Toyota Motorsport's Director of Business Operations, "This is a very impressive achievement which really shows the huge potential for electric powertrains to deliver fast, exciting action on the race track. There's no doubt that electric motorsport can be every bit as thrilling as traditional racing and it was an amazing sensation to watch the TMG electric vehicle fly past on the Nordschleife, with only the sound of wind rushing past and tires squealing." As we have previously reported, the P001 features a 41.5 kWh lithium-ceramic battery which powers two electric motors that develop 381 PS (280 kW / 375 hp) and 800 Nm (590 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the 970 kg (2138 lb) car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph).

Growing Pains for Electric Vehicle Manufacturers

Electric vehicles hold the promise of reducing both emissions and our dependence on foreign oil. EV supporters say the electric car is a business opportunity unrivaled since we got off the horse. But many potential EV owners are concerned about the higher price of electric cars and their limited range, compared to gasoline-fueled models. Correspondent Lee Patrick Sullivan looks at the independent carmakers and big auto companies trying to charge up the transition to EVs and convince American drivers that going electric is really worth it.

[Kia Motor Show]CES 2012_Kia Ray Electric Vehicle

Launched exclusively for Korean market in December 2011, All-new Ray is the first EV in the world to be assembled on the same production lines with its regular combustion-engine sibling. Powered by a 50kW electric motor and advanced 16.4kWh lithium-ion polymer batteries, EV Ray can run up to 86 miles on a single charge. Plus, using a 220V outlet, the battery only needs six hours to be fully charged on "slow charge" mode, and 25 minutes on "fast charge" mode. The EV model's 167 Nm of torque ensure ample power and responsive performance, with a top speed of up to 81 miles per hour. The automatic transmission offers drivers the choice of two modes -- "E," (eco), which optimizes the delivery of torque for battery efficiency, or "B" (brake), which maximizes braking power when driving downhill, on highways or on mountain roads. With the same striking exterior styling, the Ray EV distinguishes itself from its gasoline sibling by a unique instrument cluster that displays electric motor operation, battery status and distance to recharge. Also, EV-specific navigation system on a 7-inch screen provides crucial information for EV drivers, such as the nearest locations of slow/fast recharging stations or reachable destinations within battery limit. The State of Electric Vehicles in America - 12.25.2011

Electric vehicles are hitting the streets in larger numbers, led by models like the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt. By one estimate, there could be more than 600000 EVs on US roads by 2014, but that's a speck in the rear-view mirror compared to the roughly 140 million passenger cars Americans already drive. This week, energyNOW! explores the state of electric vehicles in America today: are they accelerating into the fast lane, or could they run out of juice in the race against internal-combustion cars? energyNOW! 2012 Ford Focus Electric Car Review

www.autobytel.com The 2012 Ford Focus Electric car is a $39000 vehicle that operates on electricity alone. That means the car produces no harmful emissions and will never need a drop of gasoline. On a single charge the Ford Focus Electric will run up to 100 miles without needed to be recharged. Ford has integrated some great new technologies in the Focus Electric to help you drive more efficiently. The SmartGauge will tell you how efficiently you are driving and the EcoRoute will give you suggestions on what is the most efficient route to your destination. Good news is that there is a $7500 Government Tax Credit which reduces the price of the Ford Focus Electric. On the outside the car looks exactly like a regular gas powered Ford Focus. But under the hood there is not internal combustion engine, instead the Ford Focus Electric is powered by an advanced lithium-ion battery system.
