Located in Gregory Town, a stone's throw away from Elvina's - high on a hill sits Jeff's place. A family home away from home the house does have the feel of family. Unfortunately that is all overpowered by the stench of mold as you first enter the house. No matter how much air is moved through the place - the smell never goes away and is even worse upstairs in the "master bedroom". Out of the 7 days we rented this place, I was able to handle 3 nights, every other night. We were forced to rent elsewhere as well. I didn't sleep at all the first night and found that by increasing the amounts of rum I was able to handle 2 more nights but by then I was just too sick to return. Mold does that to people. To add to the experience were the roosters - everywhere. This is where we found out that roosters don't just crow at dawn - but all night, at an average of every 10 seconds. At Harbour Island my GF found the perfect tshirt - So many roosters, So few pots. But it gets better. The bathroom - well I will let the video speak for itself - I apologize for the 'shower scene' - it was my third night and by then my rum level was quite high. Then the upstairs master bedroom. Just climbing the attic access ladder at an insane angle, one can only imagine the thrill of tumbling down it late at night, head first into the tile floor below. 2 beds pushed together with the big crack down the middle sort of killed the mood, although I have to admit the smell of mold and all the dead flies on the <b>...</b>

Lad Akins from the Reef Environmental Education Foundation and Stephanie Green from Simon Fraser University are studying the lionfish invasion in the Bahamas and elsewhere in the Caribbean and Florida. We spent four wonderful days at the Cape Eleuthera resort. They have a saying that "Cape Eleuthera: It isn't for everyone." It was certainly for us. We loved the hotel property, the marina, the beaches and the remoteness of the island.We spent an afternoon at Ocean Hole, a bottomless hole of salt water in the town of Rock Sound. We also spent a day with all of Lighthouse Beach to ourselves, certainly the most beautiful beach in the Caribbean. Here are some of our pictures and videos from the trip. Captain Leon took us on a great reef fishing trip where we caught close to 25 fish, and the chef at the hotel cooked the grouper and yellowtail snapper up to perfection. We could see our bait at 80 feet down the water was so clear! Anyone thinking of travelling to a remote island should see Cape Eleuthera.

In the early 1970's Powell Pointe, at the very tip of Cape Eleuthera peninsula, was a favoured playground of the Kennedy's, boasting its own 6500 ft-long airstrip that could facilitate them flying directly to and from New York. There was a championship golf course designed by Robert Von Haggee and Bruce Devlin, that rivalled Pebble Beach. And Billy Jean King was the visiting tennis pro. Conceived and developed by Juan Trippe, founder of Pan Am, Cape Eleuthera Resort always had a whiff of Citizen Kane's megalomanic Xanadu about it. The size alone was extraordinary -- 4500 acres comprising almost the whole of the peninsula as far inland as Deep Creek, with more than 16 miles of shoreline. When Trippe and his business partner, the Florida-based real estate firm GAC, unveiled the project in 1971 it consisted of an airport, golf course, marina and 60 villa units, but with infrastructure for another 1500 residential lots. GAC went bankrupt, Trippe died in 1981 and Cape Eleuthera Resort fell into the hands of a Saudi developer. Two years later it was abandoned, and Powell Pointe returned to scrub. But with sunch a glittering legacy Cape Eleuthera wasn't going to stay out of the spotlight for long. Today there is a brand new marina with 55 slips and capacity for 145 more, and a 450-ft dock wall, which is the largest on the island. Lining the marina are 19 two-storey, two-bedroom town homes with high-end finishes, fixtures and appliances. The effect is elegant rather than opulent <b>...</b>
