Life is all about balance, and for Ellery Hollingsworth that meant keeping her education a priority, while pursuing a career in professional snowboarding. Lucky for Ellery, there are schools that help talented young athletes do just that pursue the dream. Through her conviction to become a well-educated pro snowboarder, Ellery landed herself at Vermonts Stratton Mountain Academy (SMS), where mornings are spent on the books and afternoons are spent on boards, giving students the balance needed to make dreams reality. Here is a glimpse into the life of your not so average teenager. Sure, Ellerys dorm room is seemingly normal and she attends study hall like everybody else, but in the afternoon class moves outdoors, and on this day in particular the curriculum included a jibtastic junkyard pile just waiting to be sessioned. Ellery graduated from SMS in spring 2009, and is devoted herself to her (now booming) snowboard career. From making the decision to attend SMS to competing in Olympic qualifiers, Ellery has worked long and hard to get to where she is now a pro snowboarder living the dream.

After the 2009 US Open of Snowboarding came to a close at Stratton Mountain, the crowds dispersed, competitors departed, and the countdown began. With crews working hard to disassemble the event, it was only a matter of time before the slopestyle course would be flattened. As a result, Ellery Hollingsworth and snowboard videographer Aaron L. were on a steadfast mission to get those last runs through the park and get the footage they needed. Having a mere hour to work with, Aaron prioritized his shots and Ellery quickened her runs through the park to a steady rotation that took her straight from stomping her landing to the back of a sled never once stopping, never once unstrapping. The wind was howling and temperatures were bitterly low, but after hustling through what may have been 100 laps in the park, Aaron had the long shots and fisheye shots he was shooting for, and Ellery had one last run through the park.

In the days following the US Open of Snowboarding, Ellery Hollingsworth stuck around Stratton Mountain in Vermont to make the most of the events pristine (and empty) pipe. Having just taken her first podium at the Open, Ellery was in high spirits when she met up to shoot, hike and hang out with photographer Chris Owen on what turned out to be a beautiful, bluebird winter day a perfect backdrop to work with. Chris has been snowboarding for as long as Ellery has been alive and has been a photographer for a lot longer. Receiving his first camera at a very young age definitely made an impression on Chris. Looking at the course of his life, it makes sense why he is one of the most respected snowboard photographers today. Get an inside look at a day in Chris life, and youll understand why carrying 75 pounds worth of camera and lighting equipment up the deck of a halfpipe is his idea of a good time. The 2009 Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships brings the sport's elite to Stratton every March. We talked with a Super Official who made the sport what it is today. But it was the last big contest of the season that brought us out. The Open gave the riders a chance end the season on a high note and make a statement about the Vancouver Olympics next year. Danny Kass, who seems to lurk in the background marking his competition, made it a five-pete while Torah Bright established herself as the one to beat in the Lady's Halfpipe. Watch out, though - there is a lot of young talent who will be hard to hold off. Another RadXSports video with Dawn Church reporting from Stratton and hosted by Tony Lanza. Script: The top of the halfpipe is the place to be if you want to chill with the snowboarding elite. The greatest athletes from around the world are there and stoked about making snowboarding history. It's also the place where people who have already made history tell their stories. As much as the Open honors history, it's mostly about the present. With the 2010 Olympics on everybody's mind, this year's contest contest was more than a grand finale to a long season.
