Elvis Costello - A Good Year For The Roses

I can hardly bear the sight of lipstick On the cigarettes there in the ashtray Lyin' cold the way you left 'em But at least your lips caressed them while you packed Or the lip-print on a half-filled cup of coffee That you poured and didn't drink But at least you thought you wanted it that's so much more than I can say for me What a good year for the roses Many blooms still linger there The lawn could stand another mowin' Funny I don't even care As you turn to walk away As the door behind you closes The only thing I have to say It's been a good year for the roses After three full years of marriage It's the first time that you haven't made the bed I guess the reason we're not talkin' There's so little left to say we haven't said While a million thoughts go racin' through my mind I find I haven't said a word From the bedroom the familiar sound Of one baby's cryin' goes unheard What a good year for the roses Many blooms still linger there The lawn could stand another mowin' Funny I don't even care As you turn to walk away As the door behind you closes The only thing I have to say It's been a good year for the roses

Written by Elvis Costello (lyrics) and Clive Langer (music), during the Falklands War of 1982..it's that kinda song which gets under your skin and stays there..the awesome contribution of jazz trumpeter Chet Baker is outstanding !! You will find this beauty on the1983 album "Punch the Clock"..the tune was originally written for Robert Wyatt..but Elvis rewrote it and made it his own

Nick Lowe classic cover by Elvis Costello with either the Attractions or Imposters given the former were both Elvis' former bands, with video shot on English Bay, Stanley Park and other locations in Vancouver BC judging by the scenery and totem poles. The subtitles in whatever language reveal understanding wasn't the intent, so what of peace and love? Hope everyone gets as big a kick out of the subtitles and their irony when juxtaposed with the song title.

Written by: Leon Payne (Inspired by the Whitman killings of 1966 at the University of Texas Austin) Performed by: Elvis Costello Come here and fry some fish, mama I`m as hungry as can be Oh lord, how I wish, mama You could stop the baby cryin` `Cause my head is killing me I saw my ex again last night mama She was at the dance at Miller`s store She was with that Jackie White mama I killed them both And they`re buried under Jacob`s sycamore You think I`m psycho don`t you mama I didn`t mean to break your cup You think I`m psycho don`t you mama You better let `em lock me up Oh, don`t hand me Johnny`s pup mama As I might squeeze him too tight I`m havin` crazy dreams again mama So let me tell you `bout last night I woke up in Johnny`s room mama Standing right there by his bed With my hands around his throat mama Wishing both of us were dead You think I`m psycho don`t you mama I just killed Johnny`s pup You think I`m psycho don`t you mama You`d better let `em lock me up Oh you recall that little girl mama I believe her name was Betty Clark Oh don`t tell me that she`s dead mama `Cause I just saw her in the park We were sitting on a bench mama Thinking of a game to play Seems I was holding a wrench mama Then my mind just walked away You think I`m psycho don`t you mama I didn`t mean to break your cup You think I`m psycho don`t you mama Mama why don`t you get up?

Elvis Costello - Peace Love and Understanding - Vintage Video

Rare video of Elvis and the Attractions. High quality sound. From 1978's "Armed Forces". EC and the boys doing their famous version of Nick Lowe's "(What's so funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding." Notice that in some shots keyboardist Steve Nieve is 'playing' guitar. Guess they couldn't be bothered to bring a keyboard out to the jungle. Or a drum kit for that matter. Anybody have a clue about where this was filmed? Looks like maybe Alaska: tall trees, totem poles, forest, seashore.

Elvis Costello I'll Take Care of You

SHE - ELVIS COSTELLO

She May be the face I can't forget The trace of pleasure or regret May be my treasure or the price I have to pay She May be the song that summer sings May be the chill that autumn brings May be a hundred different things Within the measure of a day She May be the beauty or the beast May be the famine or the feast May turn each day into a heaven or a hell She may be the mirror of my dreams The smile reflected in a stream She may not be what she may seem Inside her shell She Who always seems so happy in a crowd Whose eyes can be so private and so proud No one's allowed to see them when they cry She May be the love that cannot hope to last May come to me from shadows of the past That I'll remember till the day I die She May be the reason I survive The why and wherefore I'm alive The one I'll care for through the rough in ready years Me I'll take her laughter and her tears And make them all my souvenirs For where she goes I've got to be The meaning of my life is She She, oh she...

beautiful performance of a beautiful song :) Lyrics are below.. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statue that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use" Well I recall his parting words Must I accept his fate? Or take myself far from this place I thought I heard a black bell toll A little bird did sing Man has no choice When he wants everything We'll rise above the scarlet tide That trickles down through the mountain And separates the widow from the bride Man goes beyond his own decision Gets caught up in the mechanism Of swindlers who act like kings And brokers who break everything The dark of night was swiftly fading Close to the dawn of the day Why would I want him Just to lose him again
