ICIDO Virtual Reality: IDO:Ergonomics

In order to develop products which are comfortable and safe to use by humans it is necessary to check their ergonomics and ease of use at an early stage. The IDO:Ergonomics man model allows questions of ergonomics to be answered early on prior to the construction of a physical prototype based on 3D data, thus making valuable time and cost savings in product development. With the help of the virtual human it is possible to examine controls with regard to their accessibility and manageability, perform positionings and comfort analyses and assess visual space in a meaningful manner.

Bricklaying Ergonomics

This is an excerpt from a half hour documentary on the life and work of Frank Gilbreth. Gilbreth lived at the turn of the last century and was a student of Frederick Taylor. He studied work to make it more efficient. This excerpt is about his work to improve bricklaying and find the "one best way" to lay bricks. In doing so he made bricklaying more efficient but also safer. More on his life can be found at the Gilbreth Network website.

Kershaw PackRat: "Ergonomic Speed" by Nutnfancy

A different name and unconventional looks might tempt the casual knife shopper to discount the Kershaw PackRat. That would be a mistake...it's one of the best EDC blades out there. The claims of ergonomics for the handle hold true; even without jimping (a glaring miss) the PackRat locks into the hand well. The blade shape is superb with excellent sweep and a piercing-capable edge. In this knife, I think the combo edge with Kershaws excellent and smooth cutting serrations is a great choice. The edge on the 14C28N steel arrives razor sharp, and like the other popular Kershaw Sandvik choice 13C26, it offers fine edge capabilities, good toughness, adequate edge holding, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. The clip is somewhat organic but is strong and retains well and can be repositioned for tip up/tip down carry orientation. The medium textured G10 handle is well-designed and comfortable. Disassembly is possible with mini-Torx construction on this Zytel backspacer design that also features nicely skeletonized nested stainless liners. The lightening job accounts for the PRs reasonable 3.8 ounce carry weight. Most impressive might be the speed at which you can bring the PackRat into action with its assisted opening, back flipper actuation (possible but more difficult with thumbstud). . It's fast and fun and it locks up with tightness. The liner lock design is strong enough for the utility tasks and EDC roles this blade will most likely encounter. Blade centering in ...

Ergonomic Office Workstation Assessment Presented by Marnie Douglas from Ergoworks www.ergonomics-ohs.com.au Marnie appears on Sky News discussing the importance of Ergonomics in your office. Employers who dont take the need for ergonomic workstations now place themselves at risk of workers compensation claims for Repetitive Strain Injury and more. For employee satisfaction and a reduction in injuries resulting from long hours sitting at a computer, an ergonomic workstation assessment is crucial for your office. Until you have a professional assessment, there are a number of steps you can take to minimise risk of injury for your employees. The following steps are recommended as a minimum 1) Ergonomic Mouse There are a number of options on the market at the moment. There are a huge array of products all offering different positives and negatives. Its important to try a number of options to see which suits you best. Some people find that using 2 mice on a computer can be very beneficial in reducing the strain on one arm. While others find that a roller ball mouse is helpful as it means less movement is required by the extended arm. 2) Ergonomic Keyboard Again - there are a wide variety of products available on the market. There are many keyboards that now have a variety of features that place less strain on the arms and wrists during long term use. RC Transmitter Ergonomics and the Xtreme Power Systems "Mystery" Radio.

PLEASE READ* for the mystery radio link and note that I would like to see a GLOBAL STANDARD for Transmitter Trim locations, function switches, and knobs. Since computer radios could be set to assign the functions to any switch you want, standardization could be realized. Also to prevent finger fatigue or blisters on long flights, for the STICK PINCHERS like me, (We are in the Majority by the way )we will relate to bracing the index finger on the gimbal ring when on very long flights or high simulator use. So I ask, please make some smooth gimbal rings already, like we did when we invented the radios. Here's a thought I just had for enhancing the Transmitter gimbals if remolding is a problem for the cheap guys. Just develop and include a gimbal smoother attachments that would slide over the existing gimbals with different textures as a bonus... (I just heard a whole bunch of Aftermarket entrepreneurs go...Hmmmm!) And for those who learned thumbs only and refuse to convert, want to argue the fact, I say fine. I learned from some pros and forced myself to change to pinching. Now it is comfortable and in this cold weather it is much better for me to pinch the stick. I hate to drop it, as the heli is all over the place if I don't find it right away. LOL. Remember "If it sounds stupid but it works, it ain't stupid!" New interior features for increased ergonomics

The inside of the cab is also host to many new features: One particularly striking element of the high-quality interior design is the bright, champagne-coloured contrast strip across the centre of the dashboard, which continues all the way to the doors. This elegantly divides the interior visually into two parts. There is also now a trim strip made of brushed aluminium above the painted middle section. Anthracite grey fabric is used for seat covers and bunks. The bunks have a new and lighter aluminium frame. Menu navigation on the driver's display has also been improved on the main instrument panel. A status bar clearly shows which functions are available. Every vehicle is equipped with the Basicline radio MP3-CD player in double-DIN format. The operating elements for the heating system and the main operating panel have been redesigned. New rocker switches with functional and night design and the ergonomic rotary switch for lighting and the TipMatic system make it easier to operate the TGS WW. The standard automatic window lifters are controlled on the newly designed door module or from the shift console that is easily accessible from the bunk. The electrically adjustable exterior mirror can also be adjusted on the door module.
