PREPARE IN ADVANCE TO HANDLE IMMEDIATE RADIATION EXPOSURE AND FIGURE ROUTES TO LEAVE THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY (a bug-out plan). Pray for no issues but prepare for the worst. Nothing MAY happen but If IT DOES, you will need to be prepared to save lives! **** We have months to wait out this problem as the swollen Missouri river, and it's system of levees and dams may not hold these historic water levels. MINOR FAILURES HAVE ALREADY OCCURRED and we are at the start of the flooding - not the end. Nuclear radiation seems to be mother nature's latest focal point for disaster possibilities. Fukushima continues to deliver hot pockets of radiation around the world. Meanwhile, The Nebraska Power Plant at Ft. Calhoun lost power to cooling pumps briefly. those pumps keep spent fuel rods cool. Where have we heard about this problem lately? If Nebraska's nuclear power plant were to suddenly release radiation, unlike Japan, this material would rapidly move south along the Missouri, Mississippi, and tributary rivers thereby exposing a threat clear down to the gulf coast. Any airborne radiation would likely spread to the east coast of the United States through prevailing winds and convective activity. There would be little time to escape things like radioactive isotopes of iodine. Europe: France is becoming increasingly concerned that its many nuclear power plant's integrity may come ...

'Euro dream fanaticism to end in disaster'

The EU's leadership remains unphased by the festering debt crisis in Greece, maintaining Athens should not, cannot, and will not default. Their message, however, is falling on increasingly deaf ears as leading economists, investors and academics say it's inevitable. Greeks, meanwhile, are mobilizing for new mass rallies as government imposed austerity begins to break the back of the country's economy. Salaries, pensions and jobs are free-falling, while taxes and cuts soar - all in an effort to satisfy EU demands in return for yet more debt - in the form of bailouts. And, according to William Dartmouth, an MEP for the UK Independence Party, the EU's obsession with the Euro can only end in disaster. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Chernobyl Accident Recalled on Anniversary

On April 26, 1986, the world's worst nuclear power disaster took place at the Chernobyl electrical generating plant in Ukraine. Radiation from a reactor explosion there spread over a broad area of northern and central Europe. The accident caused the creation of a 30 kilometer wide "no-entry" zone around Chernobyl, sealing off a city built to house plant workers and their families. Despite the concrete entombment of the destroyed reactor, on the 23rd anniversary of the disaster, the plant remains a radiation hazard today.

Chernobyl Disaster

On April 26, 1986, Reactor #4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near the town of Pripyat, Ukraine exploded. The explosion took place around midnight while the neighboring town of Pripyat slept. 4 workers were killed instantly. Four days later, the residents of Pripyat were ordered to evacuate. The residents never returned and the town still remains uninhabited to this day. In 2003, the United Nations Development Programme launched a project called the Chernobyl Recovery and Development Programme (CRDP) for the recovery of the affected areas. The program launched its activities based on the Human Consequences of the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident report recommendations and was initiated in February 2002. The main goal of the CRDPs activities is supporting the Government of Ukraine to mitigate long-term social, economic and ecological consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe, among others. CRDP works in the four most Chernobyl-affected areas in Ukraine: Kyivska, Zhytomyrska, Chernihivska and Rivnenska. The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear reactor accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union. It is considered to be the worst nuclear power plant disaster in history and the only level 7 instance on the International Nuclear Event Scale. It resulted in a severe release of radioactivity into the environment following a massive power excursion which destroyed the reactor. CHERNOBYL NUCLEAR POWER PLANT -- NUCLEAR ACCIDENT - RECTOR 4 EXPLOSION

The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Ukrainian SSR (now Ukraine). It is considered the worst nuclear power plant accident in history, and it is the only one classified as a level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale. The disaster began during a systems test on 26 April 1986 at reactor number four of the Chernobyl plant, which is near the town of Pripyat. There was a sudden power output surge, and when an emergency shutdown was attempted, a more extreme spike in power output occurred, which led to a reactor vessel rupture and a series of explosions. This event exposed the graphite control rods of the reactor to air, causing them to ignite. The resulting fire sent a plume of highly radioactive smoke fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive geographical area, including Pripyat. The plume drifted over large parts of the western Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and Northern Europe. Large areas in Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia were evacuated, and over 336000 people were resettled. According to official post-Soviet data,[1][2] about 60% of the fallout landed in Belarus. The accident raised concerns about the safety of the Soviet nuclear power industry, as well as nuclear power in general, slowing its expansion for a number of years and forcing the Soviet government to become less secretive about its procedures. Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus have been burdened with ...

1986 Chernobyl Disaster 1/10

The Battle Of Chernobyl en.wikipedia.org The Chernobyl disaster (locally, Chornobyl Catastrophe) was a nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine (officially Ukrainian SSR), which was under the direct jurisdiction of the central Moscow's authorities. An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere, which spread over much of Western USSR and Europe. It is considered the worst nuclear power plant accident in history, and is one of only two classified as a level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale (the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster). The battle to contain the contamination and avert a greater catastrophe ultimately involved over 500000 workers and cost an estimated 18 billion rubles, crippling the Soviet economy. The disaster began during a systems test on Saturday, 26 April 1986 at reactor number four of the Chernobyl plant, which is near the city of Prypiat and within a close proximity to the administrative border with Belarus and Dnieper river. There was a sudden power output surge, and when an emergency shutdown was attempted, a more extreme spike in power output occurred, which led to a reactor vessel rupture and a series of explosions. These events exposed the graphite moderator of the reactor to air, causing it to ignite. Chernobyl 25 years ago; radioactive Cesium 137 cloud over Russia and Europe

25 years ago, on 26 April 1986, a nuclear power plant catastrophe took place in Chernobyl, near Kiev, in the Ukraine. It was the worst nuclear power plant accident in history. The accident was the result of a flawed reactor design that was operated with inadequately trained personnel. Ironically, the disaster occurred during a systems safety test performed to test whether the reactor had the capability to ride through the first 60--70 seconds of a total loss of electric power during an emercengy shutdown. A sudden high power output surge took place, and when an attempt was made for emergency shutdown, a more extreme spike in power output, about 10 times the rated maximum output, occurred leading to reactor core explosion. This threw large quantities of radioactive core materials into the atmosphere and exposed the graphite moderator components of the reactor to air so they started to burn. The resulting fire sent a cloud of radioactive fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive geographical area, including the nearby town Pripyat. The cloud drifted over large parts of the western Soviet Union, and Europe. Large areas in Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia had to be evacuated, with over 300000 people resettled. Two Chernobyl plant workers died on the night of the accident, and a further 28 people died within a few weeks as a result of acute radiation poisoning. Radiation doses on the first day were estimated to range up to 20000 millisieverts (mSv). The next task was ...

Seconds From Disaster - S01E07 - Meltdown In Chernobyl

The Chernobyl disaster was a well-known nuclear accident of catastrophic proportions that occurred on 26 April 1986, at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine (then in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, part of the Soviet Union). It is considered the worst nuclear power plant accident in history and is the only level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale. The disaster occurred on 26 April 1986, 1:23 AM, at reactor number four at the Chernobyl plant, near the town of Pripyat, during an unauthorized systems test. A sudden power output surge took place, and when an attempt was made at an emergency shutdown, a more extreme spike in power output occurred which led to the rupture of a reactor vessel as well as a series of explosions. This event exposed the graphite moderator components of the reactor to air and they ignited; the resulting fire sent a plume of radioactive fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive area, including Pripyat. The plume drifted over large parts of the western Soviet Union, and much of Europe. As of December 2000, 350400 people had been evacuated and resettled from the most severely contaminated areas of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. According to official post-Soviet data, up to 70% of the fallout landed in Belarus.

Surviving Disasters : Jim Rawles, Bill Osmunson : Coast To Coast AM 1/3 October 12, 2011

Surviving Disasters : Jim Rawles, Bill Osmunson : Coast To Coast AM 1/3 October 12, 2011 Survivalism expert Jim Rawles discussed what we can do to prepare for disasters and catastrophes, particularly in the case of the power grid being knocked out. The greatest threat we face is from socioeconomic collapse, which could be triggered by mass inflation, leading to the dollar becoming worthless, he said. While the US has had local and regional disasters, we've never had a national event, such as an EMP attack or huge solar storm that would take down the entire grid. People need to be prepared and learn self-sufficiency in the event of such an outcome, he advised, adding that if there's severe damage to the power grid it could take years to restore service. One of the most important things for preparation is a water filtration system-- "If you don't have water within 24 hours, you're going to be a refugee," he said. People in northern climates also have to consider heating issues, such as having a working fireplace and expedition-quality sleeping bags. He recommended that people have up to a three-year supply of food-- one year for themselves, and the rest to give to charity. Interestingly, he also suggested stockpiling nickels. In contrast to other current coins, the 5 cent pieces are made from copper and nickel, and may at some point in the future have some utility for barter, he said. Low cost training options (such as through the Red Cross) can put you and your family ...

Seconds From Disaster - S03E03 - Russia's Nuclear Sub Nightmare

On 12 August 2000, the Russian Oscar II class submarine Kursk sank in the Barents Sea after an explosion. The investigation showed that a leak of hydrogen peroxide in a torpedo led to explosion of its fuel, causing the submarine to hit the bottom which in turn triggered the detonation of further torpedo warheads about two minutes later. This second explosion was equivalent to about 2-3 tonnes of TNT, large enough to register on seismographs across Northern Europe. Despite a rescue attempt by British and Norwegian teams, which was severely delayed due to the Russians refusing them access, all 118 sailors and officers aboard Kursk died. The next year, a Dutch team recovered the wreckage and all of the bodies, which were buried in Russia.
