Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme LAS VEGAS

Steve and Eydie married in Las Vegas way back in December 1957. They are always a top attraction there, and elsewhere. Here they sing that great standard FLY ME TO THE MOON .( In Other Words) From wikipedia: "Frank Sinatra recorded the song on his 1964 album It Might as Well Be Swing accompanied by Count Basie. The arrangement by Quincy Jones has become the rendition by which most people recognise the song. Jones changed the time signature, which was originally 3/4 waltz-time, to 4/4 and gave it a 'swing' feel. Sinatra's recording was a hit and was played to the astronauts of Apollo 10, on their lunar mission. [1] Sinatra also performed the song with Basie on 1966's Sinatra at the Sands, and on 1994's Duets II, his final recording of "Fly Me to the Moon" and his final collaboration with Antonio Carlos Jobim. He also performed this song in 1969 TV-show "Sinatra", there he dedicated it to the Apollo astronauts "who made the impossible possible". "Fly Me to the Moon" is a pop standard song written by Bart Howard in 1954. When introduced by Felicia Sanders on the cabaret circuit, it was originally titled "In Other Words". The song became popularly called "Fly Me to the Moon" from its first line, but it took a few years for the publishers to change the title officially." Sabor A Mi By Eydie Gormé & Trio Los Panchos

Eydie Gormé is an American singer who still performs with husband Steve Lawrence, whom she married in 1957. She began her career in 1950, performing with Tommy Tucker and Tex Beneke, and released her first recordings the same year. Her last record to hit the charts was Blame It On The Bossa Nova in 1963. Her biggest selling album was a collection of songs in Spanish with the Mexican group Trio Los Panchos in 1964. This selection, Sabor A Mi from the album with Trio Los Panchos, has become her signature song. This album has been re-released several times in both the US and throughout Latin, Central and South America.

Eydie Gormé Tribute

Here is one of my favorite singers, the great Eydie Gormé, a true legend of Las Vegas, a friend of all the great singers (Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Sammy Davis Jr., Sarah Vaughan, Shirley Bassey...) and a great exciting voice! Eydie Gormé (born Edith Gormezano in 1931 to Sephardic Jewish immigrants) is a bilingual (English and Spanish) American singer who, with her husband Steve Lawrence, is credited heavily with helping to keep the classic American pop repertoire alive and well. She graduated from William Howard Taft high school in 1946 (legendary film director Stanley Kubrick attended the school at the same time), and worked for the United Nations as a translator, using her fluency in the Spanish language. She also hired out as a singer, working in the big bands of former Glenn Miller singer Tex Beneke as well as the lesser-known Tommy Tucker, before going on her own in 1952. She caught both her big break and her life partner when she and singer Steve Lawrence were booked to the original The Tonight Show, then hosted by Steve Allen. Steve & Eydie (as they are usually referenced) became two of the only legitimate music stars to break out from 1950's television. Gormé enjoyed a few hit singles on her own. Still, she won a Grammy Award for Best Female Vocal Performance in 1967, for her version of "If He Walked Into My Life", from the stage musical Mame. Like her husband, Gormé has appeared on numerous television shows over the years, including The Carol Burnett Show ...

EYDIE GORME.- "Suddenly the setting is strange.....Suddenly I see it all changed" sings Eydie in the 1950s version of the song, arranged by the great Don Costa. But for some unknown reason the Klezmer/ Freylach part at the end was left out. I always felt Eydie should have contacted Ziggy Elman to add that fabulous yiddish music. Now we find Eydie Gorme in a virtual setting, as the female vocalist in the company of two great big bands, Benny Goodman and his Orchestra, and Ziggy Elman and his orchestra. We are back in 1939, with the great Gene Krupa at the drums, the fabulous clarinet playing of Benny Goodman, and the great trumpet of Ziggy Elman. And Eydie singing to a wonderful yiddish melody. Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme - Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

As World War II was winding down in July of 1945, composer Jule Styne and lyricist Sammy Cahn sat at a piano in Hollywood, California on one of the hottest days on record there and wrote "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow" more as wishful thinking. The song became a hit that fall for Vaughn Monroe, and has been recorded by many since. Steve and Eydie recorded this seasonal hit for their Holiday music album in 1964.

Eydie Gormé on the Tonight Show (1966)

Eydie Gormé giving a rousing performance of "I Wanna Be Around" on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1966. This is a very rare video for two reasons: First, because most footage of Johnny Carson's first ten years at the Tonight Show is not existing anymore. And secondly, because this is one of the first home video recordings ever. So the quality is a lot better than with the kinescope technique mostly used back then. This clip doesn't originate from me. One user uploaded it here last year but sadly, it was deleted after a while. If that user is still around: I hope it's OK for you that the clip is up here again. Otherwise, please contact me. The same applies to the YouTube administrators and NBC and/or Carson Productions. ;-) I just thought since this video can't be found anywhere else and since it also shows such a brilliant performance (of one of my favourite songs, by the way), it shouldn't be left aside here on YouTube.

"Frenesi" (Spanish for 'frenzy' as in a romantic frenzy) was composed by Alberto Dominguez in the late 1930's and became an instrumental hit for Artie Shaw in 1940. It has since become a jazz standard sung and recorded by many including Eydie Gorme, she of Spanish heritage herself, who delivers this scintillating performance.

Eydie Gorme - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (Original Stereo)

"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" has been credited to the songwriting team of Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane (although Martin in later interviews admits Blane's only contribution to this song was a suggested idea). The song was introduced by Judy Garland in the 1944 film "Meet Me in St. Louis" for which both Martin and Blane wrote most of the music. This recording of it is from a compilation of Christmas songs recorded by both Eydie Gormé and her husband Steve Lawrence in 1964 entitled "That Holiday Feeling". Eydie sings one of the most heartfelt versions since the Judy Garland original.
