FOA Lecture 25: FTTH - Fiber To The Home

This is the 25th lecture in the FOA series on fiber optics. This lecture is about FTTH - fiber to the home, or more generally FTTx, the industry term to include fiber to the home, premises, business, curb, etc. In this video, we discuss why FTTH is happening now, what architectures and network protocols are being used and how it is implemented.

What is FTTH - A Simple Introduction from Fibre to the Home Council Europe

Get fiber optic products from FO4SALE www.fiberoptics4sale.com A Cute and Fun video about FTTH! FTTH (Fiber To The Home) is the idea of bringing high-speed networking, digital television and telephone service to residences using fiber optic cables. Although we think of cable modem and DSL services as "high speed" today, they are too slow to support networking of applications envisaged for the future such as high-definition IPTV. Telecommunications companies developing FTTH technology plan to support 100+ Mbps bandwidth per home. They view fiber optic cabling as the best technology for high-speed, high-quality residential area networking, eventually replacing both telephone and cable TV lines. Costs to get FTTH services off the ground are high, but fiber to the home installations are steadily increasing around the world.

Midcoast.com Broadband FTTH @ Squirrel Island Maine

In 2011, Midcoast Internet Solutions setup a 105 home fiber-to-the-home network on Squirrel Island off the Maine coast. This was done using standard SM WDM fiber ethernet equipment to provide up to 100mb ethernet to each home. The Internet backbone connection is a 100mb wireless link to a Midcoast.com tower a few miles away. There are no landline phones (or cable tv) on the island. Many happy netflix viewers after this project was installed. With new transceivers and switches, the network could be gigabit to the home, but the current wireless backhaul options don't yet make that sensible.

FTTH - Fibre To The Home - 2011

Tratos convention for FTTH calbes (Fibre To The Home) 2011. Tratos organised a free conference on Fibre to the Home (FTTH) on 8th September at its main headquarters in Pieve Santo Stefano, Arezzo, Italy. The full day conference, which has been organised in conjunction with Tyco Electronics, features a range of topics and guest speakers, including Andrew Oliviero of OFS examining the latest developments in bend-insensitive fibres for FTTx applications and Jan Vandenbroek of Tyco Electronics looking at where we are now with FTTH and what the future holds. Other guest speakers come from Open Access Telecom Italia, TiLAB Telecom Italia and Fastweb SpA The conference will be opened by Tratos Cavi President Albano Bragagni. Tratos has exceptional knowledge and expertise in FTTH, offering its own range of FTTH optical cables especially designed for use inside buildings to connect individual properties. Optimised for brownfield construction networks, Tratos' FTTH cables are highly flexible yet durable.
