Ronald Allan Pou y Kelley-Gatbonton was born on August 20, 1939 in Manila of Pangasinan, Spanish, Kapampangan and Irish American descent, the son of actor-producer-director Fernando Poe, Sr. of San Carlos City, Pangasinan (1916--1951) and Bessie Gatbonton Kelley (1918--1999) of Candaba, Pampanga. His mother, Bessie Kelley, was an American and sometimes called Elizabeth Kelley in some sources especially in Philippine press. His mother's parents, Arthur Kelley (WWI Army Corp of Engineer from Iowa, USA) was an Irish American who settled in the Philippines and Martha Gatbonton, a Filipina of mixed Kapampangan and Spanish heritage. Poe Jr.'s parents were not legally married yet when he was born in 1939. His parents later married in 1940. He was the second of six siblings, born after Elizabeth and before Fernando II (Andy -RIP), Genevieve (Jenny), Fredrick (Freddieboy), and Evangeline. His name at birth was Ronald Allan Kelley Poe; his brother Andy was the legal Fernando Poe Jr. The late actor Conrad Poe was his half-brother..... Romana, Paquito Toledo, Boy Francisco, Jesus "Og" Ramos, Elizabeth Ramsey and Teresita Mendez as Rosa. Directed by Pablo Santiago. Da King plays Nanding, the leader of a group of young adventurers who went to Mindoro on a treasure hunt. This is probably the only remaining Lo' Waist Gang movie available commercially. (Excerpts from Simon Santos blog): Fernando Poe, Jr. was barely 17 years old when he starred in the first of a series of highly successful Lo' Waist Gang in July 1956. It jump started his career after a below par showing of his first movie, Anak ni Palaris in 1955. Excerpts from the article 'Batang Taquila' by Quijano de Manila (Nick Joaquin) Philippine Free Press/ June 1, 1968: The public tended to see Lo'Waist Gang as a real-life gang that Ronnie, like any other members of the gang, often found themselves provoked and set upon by kanto boys wanting to test them out. Actually, says Ronnie, Lo Waist was a gang only onscreen; Zaldy Zshornack had his own barkada, and so did Boy Sta. Romana; and the only members that Ronnie moved around with after working hours were Berting Labra (because Labra worked for Poe senior) and Boy Francisco (because Boy and Ronnie were both courting Corazon Rivas at that time).
