I've put together a video slide presentation of the chained, neglected dogs in Escambia Co., FL (Panhandle). I'd like for the community to see how many of these dogs live. I started taking pictures in 2004 when I noticed that my neighbor had 4 chained pit bulls that lived a neglected life 24/7. My heart ached for their plight. I noticed more and more dogs living sad lives on chains. My hope is that when people actually see these pictures, they'll be moved to help change the law here in Escambia Co. to make it illegal to chain (tether) a dog 24/7. I am an amateur photographer and filmed this over 34 years ago. (No digital cameras then) this was one of the best and cleanest auto collections you ever saw! Their motto was: "You won't believe your eyes", and that was true. Every auto and engine was meticulously kept up. The museum was curated by John Burgess and his heart was really into preserving these cars. I followed him to the Concourse De Elegance in Northern California when they took their famous Bugatti Royale to display. The car was amazing and only 1 of 7 in the entire world and was estimated by some to be worth over $8 million in 1983! It was sad to see them close, as they were a landmark in Southern California. I filmed each car and engine and had DVDs made from the original VHS tape which are a much higher quality video than this compressed portion for Youtube. This full-length, amateur DVD of the museum are available for $29, including shipping via USPS. This museum and the cars were a big part of history. The cars have been scattered throughout the world to various collectors, but most went to The Collier Collection in Florida. Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for watching. (more) (less)

The Gulf Oil Crisis continues to worsen further east on the Florida Panhandle. Small tar balls washed ashore Wednesday night at the town they call the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village." Even after clean up crews worked overnight, the tar balls are washing ashore in greater numbers. Destin natives are getting their first look as the oil crisis washes up on their shore. Dixie Flowers gets her first look at tar balls, inspecting them. "To be able to come out here and get oil on my hands is very surprising." Flowers, and husband Buzz Howard, go to the beach almost everyday to relax, but this is their first time experiencing the Gulf Crisis in their home. "It's not a shock, we've been waiting two months," Howard said. The dime and nickel size tar balls wash ashore with almost every wave. Clark Drago is mad and frustrated. "It's not really much we can do as locals. I guess we can get up and clean what washes up on the shore. What can we do? These locals know their neighbor's businesses are already suffering , and now tar balls on the beach will make it worse. "It's taking money out of their pockets," Drago said. "I understand the restaurant business is down 30 to 50 percent from people I talk to in the supply business," Howard said.
