With FC United down to 10 men at Bower Fold, for the second time in two months, the red-shirted heroes once again made their hard work show through. After Jerome Wright had equalised in the first half, Scott McManus and then Mike Norton also headed United further into the play-off zone. The comeback was complete when Saturday's penalty hero Ben Deegan slotted home the fourth of the night and the red's 700th competitive goal.

Frickley website report. On loan defender Mark Gray snatched an 88th minute goal to give the Blues a deserved point when they entertained Buxton. Peter Knox linked up with Ollie Ryan to lead the Frickley attack, Alex Callery also returning in midfield, but it was the Bucks who threatened first, Adam Billard doing well to hold a 15 yard shot by Michael Towey in the second minute. Knox combined well with Ryan a minute later, with Ryan having his shot blocked and Kelvin Bleau then overlapped down the right and whipped in a cross which was turned behind. A Buxton corner kick in the sixth minute was punched up into the air by Billard and Gray had to head behind, and the Bucks grabbed the lead from the second flag kick a minute later, Mark Reid appearing to glance the ball in from close range. Frickley responded and a well worked raid in the 14th minute saw Ryan Mallon cut in from the left and strike a 20 yard drive just wide of the near post, and Ryan then slipped a pass inside to Knox whose 25 yhard drive swerved off target. Callery sent Knox down the right in the 25th minute and he cut inside but saw his drive diverted off the line. Ryan had the ball in the net a minute after the interval, but was ruled fractionally off-side, while Danny Walsh had an effort diverted off target after 50 minutes as the Blues continued to stretch a well drilled Buxton defence. A smashing time in South Elmsall had Ben Deegan's touch on all three of United's goals. After a cagey first half with the reds having the best chances the second half came to light just around the hour mark. A cross from Deegs was slid in for an own goal and this was quickly followed up by a lay up from Ben, for Matthew Wolfenden to quickly change his shape and slam in the second. The third was all big Ben's doing though, as a punch out from the keeper was volleyed home van Basten style to restore FCs two-goal lead and 3-1 is how it finished.

A second visit in 11 days, again saw four goals and a red victory. This no-nonsense cup tie was controlled by FC throughout the game. A Michael Carr close-range shot sneaked inside the near post to start the scoring and soon after a free-kick was bundled home by Adam Jones to double the lead. A Carlos Roca penalty hit the post and rebounded out, but minutes later his free-kick came off the bar and the goalie's arm to bounce over the line. A mistake by Frickley left Carr with his second of the match and an easy Trophy win for the visitors.

On her first main line outing since being outshopped in LNWR style black (lined in maroon and straw) and since being granted a year's extension to her main line boiler 'ticket', 6233 heads the "Yorkshire Coronation" (Derby-Scarborough-Derby) tour along the old Swinton & Knottingley joint line. The video shows the Duchess on the final half mile of the 1 in 150 climb to the summit near the closed station at Frickley between Bolton- on-Dearne and Pontefract. For once, the weather was co-operative and with the hour of the day (just before 10am) affording dramatic sidelighting, I just needed the footplate crew to be putting in an effort. They didn't disappoint.
